  1. When it comes to vbios stuff, that guy is only copying other people's work... and charging money for it. Just saying.
  2. Ok. So MSI vbios is working with raid and everything, the others you tested aren't, right? Then I'd have to things you could test if interested.
  3. As unlikely as this sounds, it might be worth a try... if you can test that, try to see whether it works without raid. It is not very likely to make a difference, but I mainly suggest this because I have experienced nvidia vbios messing with boot devices myself.
  4. Hmm, bad news then. At least that would mean that the vbios itself was not the issue, which would make more sense for me. Well, still odd that you would get the boot device error with the other vbios. Did you already try disabling the IGP device and booting with PEG only?
  5. Okay, thanks. Well it is pretty difficult for me to point down the issue without having a system to test myself. It's interesting that the MSI vbios should work for you. That being said it would not be the first time I see a nvidia vbios messing with boot devices... You say you have uefi boot disabled, I take it you have 'quick boot' disabled as well? As well as 'EFI Device First'? Interested in testing some things?
  6. Do you have a picture of your card? Something's odd. I don't see why the other versions shouldn't work. The MSI simply doesn't include the uefi gop driver, so the only possibility I can think of why it shouldn't work is related to secure boot / legacy boot settings.
  7. So, wait a second, what was the original vbios on your card? Do you have secure boot activated?
  8. Please prepare an USB drive that can boot DOS and dump the vbios with nvflash, then we know more.
  9. Well, yeah, both is possible, what do you prefer? I'd suggest trying the one I used, that should work fine. Odd, maybe try re-seating the GPU in the slot. But you can try BR44450.007 if you want, that's definitely an option, that's the one I used. But I don't think the problem is vbios related. Might be mistaken though.
  10. Yeah, wrong vbios. Flash a Dell vbios. You can flash blindly, it's a bit a PITA but it works. Easiest way to do so is if you have USB set to the first boot priority, because booting from USB blindly is almost the most tricky part of the procedure.
  11. Now put a simple switch between the fan and the connector on the mobo and you can easily toggle full speed / auto fan control.
  12. You must have some issue with your installation, it doesn't matter which 3dm11 version you use as long as you have a valid sys info version. "No application is associated..." means that you don't have any entry in your default browser list .
  13. Never an issue like that, even when using the free version. I'd suggest uninstall 3dm11 and the systeminfo stuff and try again.
  14. Thanks. That was on at least +200mV, can't remember, might as well have been +300mV. That wasn't really the limit though, I was busy with pushing the GPU. Well, then let me see a score
  15. My 8970m run at 1.0V under load... 1.075V sounds like a lot. What did you use to monitor the voltage? The fans are never reported correctly in mobile systems, they get controlled by the EC. If your fans are on all the time then you need to use hwinfo to control them automatically, as with some 6900m series and 7900m series cards.
  16. Can you send me a copy of that vbios when you get the chance? For OCing, easiest is using the Catalyst Control Center, it has a built-in OC panel. Else, Sapphire TrixX or MSI AB.
  17. 860m exists as MXM, but that's the GK104 part. The GM106 part has only been seen as on-board solution so far. However, the 780m / 880m are out of reach for both of them.
  18. Chip replaced and it doesn't work? You checked whether all the solder joints are fine and also the orientation of the chip? Fried CPU is highly unlikely. The only thing I can think of is that the EC firmware is messed up...
  19. Yes, most important thing is proper contact with the die. Pads on the memory will do, pads on the mosfets aren't that important in that case, I run my 7970m cards mostly without those.
  20. You don't need new thermal pads, just use the ones you have. No tape needed either, it just have to fit, else something's wrong anyway.
  21. Works fine, provided you have the proper vbios. See here: http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m15x/3911-m15x-amd-8970m.html#post55048 I wasn't able to OC the memory though, crashed at the slightest change. Might have been a dud, but some other people also seemed to have issues with ocing the memory of the 8970m, in other systems.
  22. Ok, then I misinterpreted that graph. Kinda looks like > 90°C on your pics. Do you have some graphs with the stock vbios? With no OC etc.
  23. Of course it throttles, your temps are way too high for the card to sustain the set clocks. At about 92-93°C is the limit of those GK104 chips, then the driver will kick in and throttle, no matter what. However I still don't believe that you can sustain 993MHz with the stock vbios without hitting the same temp limits.
