  1. I've used an Oculus (DK1) with my eGPU set-up and it's worked just as well as an external monitor has.
  2. I have a 2013 MBA with a Sonnet IID + 980 and it all works flawlessly in OSX. When I had a 780Ti it also worked in Win10 and I was using the Optimus EFI work around. But then I got the 980 instead and hadn't booted into Windows for a while, now I can't boot to Windows with the eGPU plugged in Windows hits the little spinny dots and freezes the for a bit, then bluescreens and tells me that it hit a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION which is obviously the eGPU causing an issue. The Nvidia drivers are somehow no longer installed (wut -- they were installed when I had the 780Ti) and I can't reinstall them because the GPU can't be plugged in when booting and wont recognize on a hotplug. I don't really care about using Optimus -- I just want to get it booting and functional with my new 980. Anyone have any ideas?
  3. Looks like it breaks on El Capitan. It didn't work when I did a minor OSX security update, then updated to El Capitan thinking that might fix the issue. When I try and run the latest automate-eGPU.sh (0.9.7) I get this output: *** automate-eGPU.sh v0.9.7 - (c) 2015 by Goalque ***------------------------------------------------------- Detected eGPU GK110B [GeForce GTX 780 Ti] Current OS X 10.11 15A284 Previous OS X [not found] Latest installed Nvidia web driver [not found] You are running official Nvidia driver. Checking IOPCITunnelCompatible keys... Missing IOPCITunnelCompatible keys. Mac board-id found. Searching for matching driver... No web driver yet available for build [15A284]. [ATTACH=CONFIG]16143[/ATTACH]EDIT: Just realized that the error is saying it couldn't find an Nvidia driver for my system -- which makes sense as the lasts one they released was in August. Here's hoping they make an El Capital release soon.
  4. I have the EFIBackup.dmg on my desktop and I followed all the previous commands and they worked fine, but this one fails saying that it couldn't get the real source for the path /Volumes/EFIBackup. How can I restore this?
  5. This is a ridiculously n00bish question, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the Nvidia drivers installed to use my eGPU. When I try and boot into Windows 10 with the eGPU plugged in it gets to the Windows logo, but fails before it gets the little loading icon. And when I try to install the Nvidia drivers without booting with it plugged in (plugging it in after the fact) I get the error that the installer could not find compatible hardware. People seem to be having success using an external monitor but I have no luck...? Mind you, on OSX the set up works flawlessly 100% of the time.
  6. This is a ridiculously n00bish question, but all of the discussion on this site seems to be surrounding Optimus, I'm on a MacBook Air which has a shit display -- I'm fine with the external monitor I have connected, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the Nvidia drivers installed to use my eGPU. When I try and boot into Windows 10 with the eGPU plugged in it crashes before it gets the little boot loading icon. And when I try to install the Nvidia drivers without booting with it plugged in (plugging it in after the fact) I get the error that the installer could not find compatible hardware. 8. Did not know about the option settings, but 1080p is still the highest available, thought it did show a bunch more (all <=1600x900). I'll look into SwitchResX. Thanks for being so attentive and helpful!
  9. Yeah, none of the LG drivers change anything resolution-wise. I guess DP is the last thing to try, if that makes it work I will be completely confused, and if it doesn't I will also be completely confused.
  10. I'm thinking it's most likely something to do with OSX as it was working on the same display, same cable, same GPU at 2560x1080 on my desktop PC when the GPU was installed normally/internally. On OSX I only get options for 1080p, 1080i, and 720p in the displays panel. Same thing when I connect my macbook to the display directly (over mdp -> hdmi), however this direct connection does let me play audio. The only drivers for mac for the display are to enable other features that I dont need, but I'll try them out as they might force the recognition. I thought DP might be the answer, but I don't have any DP cables, so I'll have to Prime one.
  11. Works like a beauty on 10.10.5 2013 MBA + 780Ti. However, I have two questions -- one of which its more likely you'll be able to actually answer. 1. As you can see, I have an LG 29" ultrawide which should be 2560x1080p, but OSX refuses to see it as anything but 1920x1080p and it looks super stretched. Any ideas? I'm using HDMI. 2. On a similar but much less important note, OSX doesn't detect the display (although it does have a speaker) as a viable option for audio output, any idea how this could be remedied? Not a big deal as I can just connect the 3.5mm jack, but the fewer the cords the better! Thanks! This script is FANTASTIC and makes the whole process a lot less stressful and way more accessible.
  12. The idea of a boot drive in the enclosure is awesome, however I'd been planning on using a USB expansion card in my free slot on the Sonnet, as my MBA is pretty starved for ports. Any idea if there are any USB/SSD combo expansion cards, i.e. in place of the eSATA ports on the Tempo, several USB ports? My searches revealed no such device, but I was curious if anyone knew of any.
  13. I was just about to purchase the Thunder2, but if I have the opportunity to get a Sonnet IIID for $350 is it worth it? I would be running a MacBook Air with a 780Ti. The Sonnet seems appealingly simple in comparison to the Thunder2, but I couldn't justify an $800 purchase. Is $350 reasonable? (I'm not sure this is the right place, but I'm a complete freshie and couldn't find any Sonnet IIID discussion page.)
