Does the problem also happen if you try to plug in some external speakers? Or just the built in speakers?

I vote either sli now or the best single card you can get without thinking about a second one later. just because if you wait to do sli sometime down the road then the longer you wait the better the graphics cards will get and you probably wont want to spend so much money on another old card to pair up instead of just getting a single new one.

On my m18x usually the left fan is spinning faster/more often than the right one. When i got my first new m18x though the right fan never spun at all which led to a busted graphics card. So ive become kind of paranoid when i cant hear the right fan
