  1. As I stated previously, what games you play really is the determining factor to whether or not you should pick AMD vs. nVidia. IMO though, the nVidia is a better overall choice since more games than not do better on it than with AMD, plus it's cheaper and is more efficient (less power consumption, lower noise) - comparing stock solutions that is.
  2. Yes, I'm using the original firmware. Searching around still yields people with problems (with any firmware).
  3. Tested it when it was off (despite creating inbound and outbound rules for the ports).
  4. Searching google, it seems like other people are having this having this issue to... still can't figure out what's wrong. Even with DDWRT: http://www.wordmark.org/Wndr3700.html
  5. Last year: Palit NE5X460SF1102 GeForce GTX 460 Sonic 1 Gb GDDR5 PCIe 2.0 x16 Video Card - $59.99 AR + Tax at Microcenter B&M Only - Slickdeals.net

  7. Still haven't seen a good as deal as the GTX 460 1GB for $50-60 (in terms of price to performance ratio). However, the GTX 660 2GB is occasionally just under $200, which would give you the best performance at your (maximum) budget. Picking nVidia vs. AMD depends on what games you play. Check GPU reviews since some games are clearly better on one platform, while others are better on the other.
  8. I'm pretty sure I set the cable modem to bridge mode but I have to see if I can find what I set the IP address of it to log in. I see it connected to my router as 192.168.0.50 but typing that into my browser doesn't load anything up. edit: interestingly enough, I managed to open my BT port but my Starcraft 2 ports are still closed...
  9. It's not my computer since it works at my parent's house (I configured the router there). How did you get to the modem controls through the router? Or do I have to plug my laptop into the modem directly?
  10. My Lenovo W520 (latest drivers for my Intel 6300) is connected to my WNDR3700v2 (latest firmware 1.0.0.32) which is connected via ethernet cable to my cable modem (Time Warner). I have assigned my laptop a static IP address and I'm trying to torrent on port x (not any of the standard ports like 80, 8080, etc.). I've set up port forwarding to open TCP/UDP for port x on my static IP address but when I test it, it's still closed. I've set up an inbound rule to accept any requests on port x (and even tried testing if the port is open with the firewall turned off). I've tried setting up my static IP in a DMZ. I can see an external (public) IP on router status. I've set NAT filtering to open and checked off respond to ping on internet port. Can anyone help me troubleshoot what options will help me open up this port?
  11. Definitely agree with you haha but sorry, this thread is ALMOST as good as the hot chicks thread
  12. How is the anniversary of your decision? lol. I didn't realize that every few months people have been adding to this thread, should have noted the 2011. Just assumed since the above msgs were from Oct 2012...

  17. Thankfully I'm above 30th street and did not lose power
  18. The tracks are a good 5'+ below the water line there lol.
  19. What it's like in NY now. Emergency vehicles driving through rivers of water. The crane is near my building. My friend's car in upper Brooklyn. Flooded MTA subway in Jersey. Another pic of cars in lower Manhattan. Still no power south of 30th.
  20. mSATA drives can be as fast as their 2.5" counterparts. Look at Samsung and Crucial/Micron - identical speeds. As long as Windows can scale it properly... we've had the hardware capability for a while, software needs some catching up.
  21. Oh you crazy Asians. - - - Updated - - - Another one: Just a note, as of London 2012 Olympics, China wiped the floor winning all 5 gold medals for men's/women's singles/doubles and mixed doubles. Plus they won silver in women's singles and mixed doubles (final was CHN vs. CHN lol). Malaysia had a good run, making it to finals of men's singles and Japan made it to the finals of women's doubles. The only non-Asian country to make it to the finals was Denmark, in men's doubles. My other favorite past time, rock climbing. This guy is Norway's best rock climber, only #4 in the world. I want to see what 1-3 do for their crazy workout. 22. Too bad AMD didn't have switchable graphics for my laptop. You don't need to flash the vbios to install GeForce drivers, just change the INF file so that your system thinks you have 'x' GPU in your system (soft-mod). I have yet to see drivers alone, significantly improve gameplay (maybe in the old days), and just wanted to know if anyone has similar/differing experiences. Interestingly, I've seen workstation software deliver better graphics (not sure why): Guide : How to use Quadro Drivers on GeForce Cards Not sure how it affects performance, but for SC2, I don't really care with increased graphics quality since there are so many units (as opposed to a FPS/RPG).
  23. I know that Quadro cards are not designed for gaming blahblahblah. But the fact is that I have a Quadro and I want to game. I just wanted to see what users here have found based on their real life experiences with Quadro cards and gaming. I have found that my Quadro card with workstation drivers can adequately game (SC2 on medium settings) but is there any way to increase performance without purchasing an external GPU or overclocking? I've read conflicting reports that GeForce equivalent cards perform "better" than their Quadro counterparts (though none of the comparisons I've seen have numbers specific for games with equal system specs, benchmarks don't mean a thing to me, also the equivalent GTX 460M has twice the render output units and GDDR5 memory). Also, if I softmod the Quadro INF to its GeForce equivalent and install the consumer drivers, would performance increase? If so, how much and why?
  24. Last year was pretty bad for movies IMO. This year has a few good ones. The Avengers was much better than all of the solo hero movies last year, for example.
