Subbing thread as I am waiting for news about this as well. -
I really hope Alienware brings back the m18x platform. I'd love to get one with 980m SLI and HDMI-Input (sad they removed it this gen of m17x).

Two items: first make sure that if you have SLI make sure it is enabled in the NVidia Control Panel (each driver update seems to disable SLI on my laptop) and second, check your power profile in Windows Power Management (I discovered it sometimes sets max CPU to 80% usage even in high power mode). Hope this helps! As for the heat, it definitely pays to have a cooling pad with this notebook.

I've had similar problems with my 2010 Macbook Air. As long as I keep videos at 480p it doesn't do too bad, but 720p streaming hiccups at times. Definitely helps to have it on the A/C power and keeping the air intake clear for maximum heat dissipation. Unfortunately I think our old GeForce 9400's are getting a bit long in the tooth to keep up with modern web.

Curious what people around here think about using the Macbook Pro w/Retina for mobile gaming. I'm hoping this year's model comes out with the equivalent of the 860m so we can get some Maxwell goodness. I'm thinking about picking one up as a dual-use work/gaming laptop if they put a decent GPU in it. A single 750m just doesn't quite cut it for me. Anyone else hoping for the same?

Hello everyone, long-time hardware enthusiast here. I enjoy small-form-factor desktop and laptop builds/mods/upgrades. I've been building my own workstations since 2000 and love doing it still! My first gaming laptop was a Gateway P7805-U (I'm writing this post on it) that I've upgraded over the years to keep in use. I recently bought a Lenovo Y510P laptop to share with my wife for mobile gaming and am excited to get to tweaking some things! -
Hoping to try this fix later today. The wifi problems in this laptop are driving my wife crazy and I'd like it to be working for her birthday this week!

MonoPrice has their own rebranded version of the 27" Korean panels with USA-based support. I'd recommend looking into them for a budget-friendly option.

I highly recommend going for the best gaming value in the 1000-1200 range if that's all you're planning to do with it. Base your build around the GPU you need (1440p will run nicely on GTX970 or R9 290x for example) and CPU (i5-series is plenty for gaming, don't need an unlocked processor for any gaming at this point). Not only does that give you more flexibility in upgrading later, but you can also invest in a nicer monitor before you hit the 2000 mark.
