  1. I would think if you have the 2230 it is almost certain that the issue is with your wifi card. Google Centrino 2230 and you will see 100's of threads complaining about that card, including on the Intel website. TO be sure I would suggest using a 2nd or 3rd wifi device right next to the problem device. If that is the only device that loses the connection you can be pretty sure. I also downloaded a wifi analyzer for my android phone. That way when I got a drop I could check the wifi connection with that as well. For me I am 100% sure the issue was the Centrino 2230. I upgraded my bios yesterday and hope to get to the store today to pick up an Intel AC 7260. I will let you know how it works once it is installed. I suspect I will have to play with the drivers for a bit but I am expecting a significant improvement.
  2. Updated my BIOS last night for my y500. Worked like a charm with no errors, and it was easy as pie. Now I cant wait to get my new wifi card so I can stop with the drops on that piece of crap centrino 2230. I don't have a lot of experience flashing bios and I have only ever done it with bios provided by the manufacturer so I was a bit nervous I was going to brick my laptop but it was smooth sailing. Thanks svl7!!!!
  3. You may want to check out the following thread. It is for the y500 bus I believe this option works for a y400 if you read the posts. http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/2874-lenovo-y400-y500-unlocked-bios-wlan-whitelist-mod.html...you may also want to thank svl7 if it works for you.
  4. I thinky for 1500 you will end up with a pretty good PC that is far more flexible for than a MAC book. If you are only planning on using it for video editing then Mac is the way to go but like the other posters say you may need to bump your budget. PC if far more flexable and you will be able to do almost anything with one in your 1500 range. I usually comment to people unless you have a very specific need for a MAC stay with PC, better price, better flexibility.
  5. I am make an assumption that most people don't change out their processor or head sink every day. You might be surprised how many people try to reuse a tube of paste that has been opened for 6 months (or longer). They way I see it $10 for a tube of paste is a lot better than having to replace a fried processor. If I order a new proessor or remove the heat sink for any reason if I don't have an unopened tube lying around the house I always order a new one.
  6. As long as you don't use the cheapest you can find you should be okay with almost anything. I usually see people who have problems are usually using way too much or removed the heat sink and did not remove the old paste and reapply new. So many people see the paste there and assume it will be okay. Don't do that!!! Also, new heat sink means a new tube of paste, dont try to reseal the tube and use on another install even if there is plenty left in the tube unless you are doing it on the same day.
  7. SWTOR - I had promised myself I would never play an MMO then I watched one of my friends play at his house. I bought the digital download that night. The graphics are re okay but the story lines are awesome.
