1. Thanks for the advice! Can you be more specific with ''open one end on each and disconnect the ground''? Don't really now what to do here
2. @Dschijn I'm only using the ATX PSU to power up both GPU and Akitio with powered riser. Tried the aluminium, not so good but it removed the connection completly from the Egpu to the mac. I sholud try wrap ONLY the cable, this time I only stuffed some aluminuim around the riser. Yes the case is closed. Problem occurs both when it's opened and closed. But I've attatched the akitio motherboard DIRECTLY to the bottom of the Collermaster case (there's no space between the case and the motherboard. Could this be the problem? Not sure about the ground connection but I can't think of that it isn't grounded. I've tried to seperate the sound hardware and the egpu and nothing helped. Thanks for your support!
3. @Dschijn yes! And it stops when tabbing out and starts again when going ingame...
4. Hi! Recently got my setup to work! (See setup at the end). But now when i boot into windows 8.1 and trying to use my external sound card ( Amazon.com: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2 In/2 Out USB Recording Audio Interface: Musical Instruments ) with my studio monitors ( http://www.amazon.com/KRK-RP5G3-NA-Generation-Powered-Monitor/dp/B00EO7UNXO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440796217&sr=8-1&keywords=krk+rokit+5 ). But the problem is as soon as I gaming the monitors starts to buzz. Im playing Guild wars 2 and Diablo 3 and same problem in both games , even tried borderlands. When I press TAB (mac command key) the buzz stops and everything is normal. As soon I start the game again the buzz go on and when Im trying to move ingame the buzz sounds worse. The monitors is connected to the sound card via XLR unbalanced cables (have tried balanced cables too) and the soundcard is connected directly to the mac via USB. Here comes the tricky part. I've tried to lower volume ingame and in windows default settings and nothing seem to work. The buzz is still there when the game is playing. Here's the tricky part. Even when I UNPLUG the USB cable from the mac THE FCKING MONITORS STILL BUZZ. I'm tabbing in and out from the game without any USB cable connected to the mac and the monitors still act as before. Ingame they buzz and when I press TAB the buzz disappears. This problem does not occurs when Im booting into OSX (without the e-gpu setup). Can this problem be some kind of ''groundloop'' issue or could it be that the e-gpu does not support a external soundcard? I've tried to deactivate all sound programs (Nvidia, windows etc..) and the problem is still there. Anyone got any idea or something I should try to make the buzz go away? I still got sound when playing games put I have to turn the volume up so the buzzing is being overwhelmed. That really sucks. I can watch videos on youtube netflix etc without any buzz issue (but I still think I can hear a reeeeeally small buzzing noise there too). SETUP: ASUS GTX 960 2GB STRIX COOLERMASTER 650W psu COOLERMASTER Elite 130 case Akitio Thunder 2 2m Thunderbolt cable Powered Riser with molex connection.
5. Dosent the card need 120w to run? Hmmm I will look into your solutions!
6. Found the solution. The GPU didn't got enough power.. That's probably why the fans never turned on. Waiting for a riser cable now. The Akitio box and the 6 pin didn't provide 120w if my math is correct. I'm going to pick up a gtx 970 so i can use two 6 pin and the problem should be solved.
7. I did make it the main display before I attached the eGPU but as you say now it's not working. So now the main display is my internal retina display. Sorry if I confused you
8. Hi! I've just started to setup my eGPU with: Akitio Thunder 2 GTX 960 mini Gigabyte Coolermaster 650w (Paperclip) So my problem is I can't install the Nvidia drivers. I've put the GPU into the PCI slot in the akitio box. Then I've connected the akitio Power supply. And then I've connected the 6-pin Cable into the GTX 960 from the Cooler Master. I'm booting up my mac (Mid 2014 13'') and pressing alt. When the bootcamp selection start I turn on the coolermaster and the akitio PSU. After that I press boot windows (windows 8.1 preview). When I'm searching for the egpu i cannot find it in the device manager either in OSX. When I trying to install the Nvidia drivers (the newest one) it says ''Nvidia Installer cannot continue'' ''The graphic driver could not find compatible Graphics hardware''. The fans on the GPU started the first time I booted the computer (That was in OSX) and after that thay never started again. The akitio box blue and green light is up. I've connected the akitio through thunderbolt (ofcourse). I've put a HDMI Cable from the GTX 960 to my external Acer minitor and made it as the main screen in windows 8. Could you guys help me out? Why dosent my computer detect the GPU? I've tried the troubleshooting steps in the forum but it doesnt work.

10. HARDWARE PREPARING Open AKiTiO's box by a normal screwdriver, take out the PCIe board, attach the riser and the GPU to its x16 slot Attach PSU's power cable (blue) to the GPU and do the "paperclip trick" as shown in picture 1. Attach DVI/HDMI cable to the GPU (if using a back bracket, I wasn't able to fit DVI-cable because the plastic part was too wide) and use any external monitor you like (4K would be nice to test with this setup) Place something under the GPU so that it will be steady (a removed front panel is perfect for this) Attach AKiTiO's 60W power plug to the DC jack of the PCIe board Connect TB cable Power up AKiTiO's box (green light should appear) and the PSU at the same time (I use a power strip with a switch on the floor) Turn on MacBook Pro (blue light should appear). If it is booting to OSX partition, change startup disk to Boot Camp partition from the OSX preferences. This card will be exchanged by the webshop I bought it from. - Pictures, web links to benchmarks and anything else has to wait until (earliest) Monday, because I will send the card back and not at home until monday. UPDATE Was able to install the GTX 970 in OSX 10.10 Yosemite, following @Mark guide: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/8059-%5Bguide%5D-2013-15-macbook-pro-gt750m-gtx780ti%4016gbps-tb2-sonnet-ee-iii-d-osx10-10-a.html BUT after changing to the OSX Default Graphics Driver, the eGPU setup is spoiled again… Can't fix it with reinstalling the WebDriver, kext editing, fixing and shutdown+boot. eGPU isn't recognized anymore PICTURES Note: MSI GTX970 with coil whine was replaced by EVGA FTW GTX970 Hi! 11. Hey guys would this cable work for the AKiTiO Thunder2 and a GTX 960? EUR It's in swedish so enjoy
12. Hi guys! Got some questions about my future ePGU setup! Just bought me an AkiTiO Thunder2 + Asus GTX 960 2gb and going to add a PSU and do the ''paperclip'' trick. My question is: Am i going to need a riser? What kind of PSU W do you recommend? I got a Macbook pro 13'' mid 2014 and will this work with windows 7 through bootcamp? I don't want to buy win 8 / 8.1 because I don't like the UI and I want to save some money.. The best would if I only used OS X but seems a little complicated to make it work perfectly. And I want to use the internal retina display. I would be glad to hear your thoughts about this and maybe some tips and tricks! Thanks!
13. Could you link a recommended riser from amazon for me? Is that the only part I need to change in my setup? So I don't need to use bootcamp?
14. Thanks for the answer. What would you recommend istead?
15. Hi! I want to build a eGPU setup to my Macbook Pro 13'' mid 2014. My setup is: AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box Apple MD861ZM/A Thunderbolt Cable - 2.0 M (NEWEST VERSION) ASUS Graphics Cards STRIX-GTX960-DC2OC-2GD5 EVGA 500W 80PLUS Certified ATX12V/EPS12V Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR PCIE 16x to 16x Powered Flexible Riser Extender Cable with Molex (Bitcoin Mining / Gaming) Will this setup work for me you think? I don't want to use windows at ALL so only OS X, currently Yosemite 10.10.2
