Yes, I use a modded Vbios. I had been using MSI Fan Control to force the fan to run at around 80%, however since I did a repaste job on the CPU and GPU the other day, I no longer need to use that tool. Temps stay around 75c on their own. Most games are stable with that overclock. A few games like AC Unity or Crysis 3 I have to back the oc down a little.

So I'm doing my first repasting job in my MSI GT70 20C (CPU and GPU), it has a connected heat pipe from the CPU to the GPU. All of the guides that I have watched of a GT70 didn't have the connected heat pipes. So my questions is: After I remove the cooling fan, should I disassemble everything together (the CPU and the GPU heat pipes/sinks) as one giant piece, or do I need to take apart the bridge heat pipe that connects the GPU to the CPU first since it rests on top of the CPU heat pipe? Also, for the sticky pads (in video guides they were white but mine seem black) if they become disconnected, how do I re-attach when reassembling? thanks!

Can someone help?! I foolishly installed this. DSR showed up under the Manage 3D settings. But then the NV Control Panel crashed. It crashes every time I open the Manage 3D setting. I've tried re-installing the driver, re-installing with a clean install, uninstalling driver, running driver sweeper, reg cleaner. Nothing works! I created a restore point before I installed the DSR patch, however after it reboots I get an error saying that it can't restore. Hmm, after I did it the option was still greyed out like before. However, when I activate ShadowPlay via the on/off switch a small icon appears in the top right of the sample monitor in GFE. See image below. I guess it's always on then.

How did you get +300 on the core? That's insane. I can only keep 1006mhz stable on the same card.

It worked for me. Did you edit or create both entries in the registry? I closed GeForce Experience first and then made the edit.

For reference I was getting a 3200 in FireStirke before overclocking. Here are some benchmarks. As you can see, overclocking is giving me quite the substantial gains. But I do keep my fan running at 80% using Fan Control. Temps will go up to 75c if I also overclock my CPU since they share a heat pipe. I switch Physx to CPU (i7 4700mq) since it usually gives me a performance bump.

When running a game or a benchmark like 3D Mark, the voltage and frequencies stay at their constant max. So would editing the other P-states help? I haven't been running the OC via the vBios. I've been doing it with Inspector. Do you think running it via the vBios would make a difference in the stability of the higher clocks or is it the same no matter how you're overclocking?

I got into a discussion about this with several desktop users. Sadly, they totally support Nvidia's decision. I don't get why, even after all the evidence introduced, people still think that modern gaming laptops are incapable of dealing with the heat introduced while overclocking. I got responses like, "Speaking as an engineer and not a consumer, trust Nvidia engineers in the assumption that in the majority of cases not allowing OC is a good idea." Such ignorance. I don't even have a 900 series mobile GPU, but I can totally see the consequences of these actions. I sent this story along with a link to the petition to every gaming news site I could think of to try and drum up more coverage. There are a lot of people who haven't considered OC now but may in the future and they have no idea about this. Sadly, there's been no response.

^This. I'm still pissed that they don't support desktop capture on my mobile card. I mean come on, really? Is it that hard? What is it about a laptop GPU that's incapable of this feat?

What he said. Currently doing +155 core and +700 memory on my 770m with an unlocked bios. Made a huge difference.

Ok after some more tinkering I was able to get these settings: core: 1037 (+175) memory: 5400 (+700) voltage: 1.050v i get a 4179 in Firestrike now! however with the voltage that high I actually get lower fps during gaming so I keep the voltage at 1.037v and drop the core down to +135. Memory stays at +700. I found that for some reason I had to step up each setting by +5 each test. For example if I tried to just use a +150 it would freeze. But if I stepped it up a little each test from +0-175 it wouldn't freeze. Since I did that I can just plug in my max settings and it works. Weird.

you totally missed my point. My point is that for $350, you can have the same if not better experience than the above GTX 750 build. Of course you'll have a better experience with a 980. That's just ignorant to point out.

I remember reading somewhere that piracy only counts to about a 5% loss in revenue, so I think that piracy get's blown out of proportion. I can say that I know more people who pirate console games than do pc games. However, console gaming is just easier. You just pop the game in (or download it) and you're done. No fussing with drivers, system specs, what settings will give you enough fps, etc. But that's what pc gamers love. Options! But you're right about pc gaming price tag being too much for a lot of people. I SERIOUSLY doubt that a cheap gaming rig that's comparable in price to a console will yield results that makes a gamer happy. $350 is hard to beat. Not when the visual difference between a console game @900p and a pc @1080p isn't discernible when viewing from 5+ feet on an HDTV. Even when the settings are cranked up. It's not going to beat a single configuration setup that has been targeted and optimized for a particular (most) game. Not to mention that a sub $500 build is already going to struggle to play current games, with all these new game engines, without dropping the resolution and/or settings really low. It isn't 2011 any more.

Yeah i've been looking at some Benq monitors, seems like a lot of people really like them. I play at a locked 30 because I find it to be a smooth experience. With my laptop I can usually max out settings or at least run high settings on demanding games, but it keeps my fps around the 30-40 range. So I lock it off at 30 via Nvidia Inspector to keep everything running smooth and consistent. I find that most stuttering I get in games is due to the frame rate jumping around. I'll change this locked fps setting depending on the game like if I'm getting average 45 fps then I'll lock it off there. But as I'm doing more monitor research I'm thinking I'm just gonna build me a 2K gaming rig and go with a 1440p monitor. I'm just gonna wait a little while for for all the new crazy hardware that's just around the corner. Oh, I feel you on the HDTV. Best thing about laptop gaming is plugging it up to the big HDTV in the living room. It's like console gaming on crack! Now if only it were in 3D...

MSI GT70 i7 4700mq 32gb ram GTX 770m so far I've only been able to overclock my 770m to 1006mhz core, 2250mhz mem, and voltage 1.037v. I've seen some 770m's go as high as 1079 core and 2300 mem at the same voltage. I've tried upping the voltage to 1.05v but didn't help. Can I go further with the voltage in order to increase the clock? Is this as far as this GT70 can go? I've tried both Svet's Bios Tuner and SVL7's bios.

What laptop do you have? My 770m is in a MSI GT70 and I can't seem to keep it stable over 1000mhz core. Even with a modded bios. Didn't know you could push the card up that high in voltage. What's your temps like with that overclock?

thanks, I was reading that 27" @ 1080p looked a bit blurry and/or grainy. I guess I'm going to be looking at a 24" then. Maybe I'll just stick to me HDTV.

I know that with a modded bios, it unlocks the ability to overclock your ram. Though, I think if you use more than 2 sticks of ram you'll have problems. I have 4x8gb sticks in my GT70 and can't overclock the ram without it freezing instantly.
