Gotcha, the 3.0 standard does communicate directly with CPU, also according to spec sheet. The one I linked, (I believe) is the chipset in our motherboards. I forget the exact source to that info but that's what I dug up a week or so ago. Regardless, it was one of three possible chipset candidates and they were all virtually indistinguishable anyway (in PCI terms I was checking). I agree that all the lanes seem enabled and that makes sense because Lenovo likes to add options to build to suit (TV tuner card, anyone? haha) and the more options the merrier. If it's not clear, in the pic with the blue X, that's just a bay. The bay itself is not exciting, a blank space of plastic. However to the left of that bay you'll notice a punch of copper leads.. here's a better pic. You can see the scale, next to that half-mini wifi and those TINY antenna leads lol. So it would be seriously tricky solder work done with a needle tip and temperature controlled iron, but all that's missing is this.. to then have an additional mPCIe gen 2 speed 2.0x (yes I was getting those mixed up but for my purposes they were interchangeable anyway ) IF that area of the moBo is accessible to the system. I mean, it seems we have the BIOS access to ensure it's not disabled there, but the manufacturer could have omitted an smd resistor somewhere down the line and that's the major impasse. Anyway, I must respectfully disagree; it is relevant and perhaps significant as well. It would allow me to keep wifi chip permanently installed and avoid plugging/unplugging antenna wires which I've noticed loosens them and that's something I wanna avoid. Plus, the hassle of actually taking the laptop out of my room lol

But, I gather mSATA is recognized as IDE or SATA by our machines.. they pins look the same as mPCIE but are different standards. From wikipedia: "The connector is similar in appearance to a PCI Express Mini Card interface,[43] but is not electrically compatible; " Therefore, I don't believe there's a PCI real estate issue! And, there's clearly a port on the MoBo which simply lacks the mPCIe header. I'm just wanting to use this extra, still mystery!!, and presumably x2.0 port as a means to not lose wiFi, or lan, or what have you.. to get an eGPU to work I need/prefer laptop and desktop modes. I somewhat doubt that the GTX660M is using more than PCI 2.0 speed connection but that's purely conjecture! It just seems like, great gains are made with eGPU at x2.0 speed so why would that be possible if the local GPU was in x4 or x8 mode. Anyway thanks for the great info I'm now interested in re-pasting and upping voltage for GPU. Also, very cool about 3920XM!! I was always wondering if that type of mod was possible. I count six there SATA is IDE also.. It's listed that way in BIOS and IDE has other incarnations like DVD so I assume its different. Even if it isn't, there's space. I'm waiting til 14nm GPU's (or at least 20) before trying it but adding a port for this application is well worth it to me.. any insight on whether or not it's actually possible much appreciated. I know I could use the WiFi port I just added from this very helpful thread, but I'd rather not, as it turns out - - - Updated - - - Out of curiosity, did you swap CPU's? Like, change out the actual chip? That's cool...

Well dunno if you've gotten these but here are a few of Video/GPU menu.. So, obviously I've done the bios mod and bought @svl7 a beer.. and it's great However now I'm considering my next mod.. a bit more complex/challenging, but doable: the eGPU. Thing is, I don't wanna lose my new wireless card, or mSATA drive I've thrown in! My question is, in the following pic, is there potential for soldering on an additional mPCIe port to run a PE4H diy eGPU dock? I'm fairly handy but it's more an issue of whether the port is available to the system. I notice the whitelist BIOS tells me a lot more about available ports, and was wondering if someone could determine if it's functional? In the much improved BIOS, there ARE some good clues that it could work.. as there are 8 lanes PCIE.. presumably, 8x 2.0 configuration for PCIe for the HM76-express chipset.. All of these lanes are set to "enabled".. is there any way to determine which lane would relate to the "mystery" port? Thanks much!!

Annoying, I know this thread is full of Q's.. but I couldn't find an answer for.. this result: "The 2 SPI flash devices do not have compatible command sets" y580, i2630qm .. Anyone seen this before?

FYI I'm impressed by what I *think* is the answer.. for new mem's there is some kind of hand-curated post-queue which moderators and senior members have to sort thru to to weed out all the crap and there seems to be a lot.. so since the moderators take time to verify if your content is relevant it will take a while for relevant posts to show up

Hi all, nice to see a rich community and a lot of good info! I'm interested in cheap android phones/tablets which (when modded) get the job done like a boss, eGPU's upgrades, SSD upgrades (still waiting to pull the trigger), and a fully functional tech setup, which it turns out takes a lot of work!! Even Apple won a court case the other day which ruled that they weren't at fault for releasing faulty logic boards.. UFB!
