  1. I bought the y410p with the nvidia 750 off ebay 6 months ago. TO this day, I have had zero problems. I run windows 7 and stuck in a sandisk 256gig SSD, replaced the cd drive with a one terabyte slim harddrive, and also added a 128gig ngff card. I originally bought it for gaming, but I hardly game anymore. For everything else it is super fast and snappy. As for the factory centrino wireless card, maybe I am just lucky, but I have had zero problems with it. I just use a basic Netgear wnr2000 router, which is n speed, and max out at around 29Mbits, never had any dropped wifi or anything. The only bad thing is the build quality. Its all plastic, including the hinge covers. I had to open it up and use some epoxy in a few places to make sure the screw inserts dont break (cause they will after a while). The best thing I can say is this laptop has the loudest speakers I have ever heard on a laptop.
  2. I was in same situation as you a few months back. My wife needed a tablet that can run Windows 8. So I got her the lowest model from the Surface Pro 3 series. I believe its the 64 gig i3 model. She surfs the web all day and watches youtube and movies from on a usb flashdrive. For what she does, I have never seen it slow down, or overheat. She doesn't game or run any CPU intensive stuff. Bought her a 64 gig micro sd card, and thats more storage than she will ever need. If your wife just surfs, youtube, and facebook, with some office here and there, consider the cheapest model. Cause for non-intensive stuff, its pretty snappy. Also, if you disable bitlocker, you will definitely notice a speed improvement. Everything just opens instantly. I got her a keyboard too but she never uses it. (BTW, I got the surface 3 i3 model, type cover keyboard, and msft arc mouse surface edition all for 700 bucks off of craigslist. I was kind of skeptical it might be stolen or something, but I had no problems registering with MSFT) Also, if you do get a Surface Pro 3, I suggest you go to Microsoft's support site and download a restore image for your model. You will have to use the specific serial number for your device, and you can download the factory restore image. Trust me, the UEFI bios on the surface is a bitch to work with. Also, the USB3 port is underpowered, so alot of external devices might not work properly.
  3. I recently purchased the MyDigitalSSD Super boot Eco 128 for my lenovo y410p. I just use it as a hidden drive for VMware (makes vmware rediculous fast.) But when I benchmark with HD TUNE, the speed is sporadic. Like it will go at 290MB then down to 100 then back up again like a zigzag.. In regular use I find it snappy and never hangs. But has anyone benchmarked the drive and saw the same sporadic speeds?
  4. You Guys should check out this new movie called Predestination with Ethan Hawke. I had to watch it 3 times just to understand what the hell was going on. Once you figure it out, its kind of a disturbing but awesome movie.
