  1. hi. last year I gave away my laptop to a friend. recently she had problems with windows crashing and turned out to be the OS drive went bad. not even read mode is available. anyways, I was going to put win11 on a m.2 sata drive for her but had to take it home because I forgot a screwdriver. I entered BIOS about 10 times before I left her place. got home and could not enter BIOS. no sager logo, no backlight, keeps rebooting and only black screen. figured battery was dead so bought some. came in today and nothing. nothing. same behavior. anything else I can do? can BIOS be flashed on there? I have the file. what tool do I need to flash? do I need to desolder BIOS chip and take it to shop with programmer? if so, what's the chip? any help would be much appreciated.
  2. those temps seem fine on the clevo. gpu1 and 2 could have thermal variances, but correct me if i'm wrong, i think gpu 1 should run a little hotter since it is master gpu and has a little overhead for the sli. but yeah, making sure your heatsinks are good by checking what the paste looks like, or doesn't look like, on heatsink and die when you take it off could be a sign you could do a little modding and get better efficiency. IC7 is supposed to be one of the better pastes though i've never tried it. putting too much paste could also raise your temps potentially. and also as mentioned, elevating your laptop a little to give intake vents a little more airflow always helps. i think i might build my own notebook cooler with two 80mm fans and a coolerguys power supply. depends on which laptop i get next. still haven't decided if it's a clevo 170sm-a or clevo p770zm,
  3. If you got 10* drop from arctic silver 5 you either had the worst thermal paste, worst application or combination of both. Article silver is a good all around paste, especially for beginners because it it so easy to apply but some of the top TIM's will give you maybe up to 5 degrees drop if applied proper. As mentioned before, gelid GC is good. Noctua nt-h1 I believe it's called. Shin-etsu is good but seemingly harder to find and one of the hardest pastes to apply I've used. IC7 is supposed though I have no personal experience. There's a couple of other good ones I can't think of, but for a lot of people it boils down to availability and cost. Locally I can't get any of the ones I mentioned except arctic silver. The others from amazon and newegg are pretty easy to get but the price isn't right sometimes.
  4. Neoprene sleeve in an ogio backpack. If I get this 17.3" notebook soon, I may have to upgrade my backpack even though it's made for 17"ers. I got the backpack for a steal @ $30 about 8 years ago and 17" laptops then were not as wide.
  5. If you bought it second hand I would repaste the CPU and GPU heatsink with your favorite TIM and clean the insides. Immediately.
