Hi Mich; from my rookie point of view, bios mods can enable the use of hardware that wasn't intended/invented for a particular rig. This obviously dramatically broadens ones customisation power. It'd certainly be interesting to hear what experienced folks and/or modders have to say on the topic. -

Gday I've been on an Alienware r4 for a couple of years now. My primary interst at this point is initialisation of a GTX675m to GTX780m upgrade following what seems to be a reasonably predictable and unsalvageable GTX675m bsod failure. The forum has already proven to be an excellent resource on these issues; thanks guys. -
gtx 780m upgrade yum

For the FPSs I play, my card will idle at 120 fps, and stress down to 60 fps. As such I tend to frame limit to 60 to eliminate stress induced fps changes which inevitablely throw me off at critical moments.

Haha; having just upgraded to a 780m, I can only hope that it continues to hold it's own; as Jimma mentioned, the very latest round of driver updates seems to have produced performance gains so I'm optimistic.

Fortunately there are developers out there that are passionateabout developing games in the PC; the upcoming Star Citizen’s project leadbeing a prime example. I’d have to suggest that this passion is derived fromthat fact that you can do more with PC’s. Yes, optimisation is a pain when youhave such a wide scope and range of hardware to accommodate, however as easy asconsoles are to work with, they are inherently limiting. The result is the mass production of pulp games for consoles, and conversely the changing payment systems for PC gaming as developers try and take the fiscal risk out of production and get a few more dollars back for the added effort. Certainly Star Citizen has demonstrated that PC gamers are prepared to embrace dramtically diffrent payment systems to ensure that quality gamers are produced.

You mentioned a few FPS's. I have to recommend planetside 2. Huge scope, intense and engaging gameplay, and free to play.

I've also seen some huge fps and detail boosts running optimisation for specific games thro Nvidia GeForce expereince. I should note that I'd already done plently of DYI optimisation on those games; I'll be damned if I can figure out how they get those games running so well at such high detail, when all my tinkering was basically trading off quality for fps. However it's done, the results seem good, and if you run an Nvidia I can only recommend it.
