Hi, anyone here has upgraded the r1 with one of the i7 extreme editions ? i'm thinking to upgrade the cpu to a i7-2960xm, but i want to make sure it will work , before i shell out $300 -especially that the seller does not accept returns. thank you.

had upgraded my m14x r1 with an i7-2860qm, and works just fine, no tweaks needed. just before you do that, uninstall the intel drivers, replace cpu, go to intel and automatically detect drivers, should do the trick. if you have an ssd inside, i would not download the IRST

it's a 9mm , any odd/hdd caddy will work. you can find them on ebay or amazon, or microcenter carries them too, if you have any of them stores around your area.

i too had the same issue, broke the little flap which holds the ribbon cable together (not the actual mount though0, and all you have to do is stick a very thin piece of plastic in it's place. i used a guitar pick, which i cut to fit. hope it helps

based on the intel specifications for the cpu, yes it does support up to 16gb 1600mhz ram. i curently have 12gb, and it's working without a flaw.

have you flashed the bios, as i've tried multiple brands/bus speeds, and couldn't make it work past 8gb
