    The y510p runs ubuntu fine, but if you decide to use the NVIDIA graphics instead of the Intel graphics, you will notice a LOT of heat coming out of the fan doing simple tasks. Only change to nvidia while you are gaming in linux .

    Actually, You can boot Ubuntu 14.04 without disabling UEFI in the BIOS, but if you have the default Windows 8.1 installation, Ubuntu won't be able to recognize the partitions and when it install GRUB your lap wont boot again Windows.

    In my opinnion, the Y510p performs ok while gaming, though I notice the heat in de left side of the keyboard then I play for hours . But its ok, it runs fine LOL and Left 4 Dead
