This is amazing! I'm actually looking forward to voiding my Lenovo warranty!

I just signed the petition. I'm extremely unhappy about the garbage bios and the "whitelist". What a joke. I will never, ever, purchase another lenovo product until they change their policy. I would never have bought this laptop if I had known about the whitelist garbage. Shame on you Lenovo.

Lenovo Y510p or somthing else ?
ward_1973 replied to tifozif1's question in What Notebook Best Fits My Needs?
I have a y510p and I thought I would be happy with it. It has great specs for the money. But, when you start digging deeper, you find the trouble spots. The wireless card is utterly useless, but there is a fix (http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/4668-lenovo-y410p-y510p-unlocked-bios-wlan-whitelist-mod-vbios-mod.html). The SLI wasn't working for a long time for me in Windows 8.1, but again there is a fix (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Y500-SLI-is-not-working-after-Windows-8-1-upgrade/ta-p/1290403). It just seems that they didn't properly set up the machine and their support is horrible. All I can say is buyer beware. -
RAM max is 16GB, GPU - not a lot of options, you should have probably gone for the SLI version since you're looking to increase gaming performance, but that has issues on these laptops. And, if you're gaming on-line, I recommend plugging in vs wireless. The wireless cards on these are the worst. You can find some good info here... http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/4668-lenovo-y410p-y510p-unlocked-bios-wlan-whitelist-mod-vbios-mod.html

Member Introduction Thread - Post Here!
ward_1973 replied to Xonar's topic in Site Announcements, Rules & New Member Intros
Hey, I'm a Computer Engineering Technology student and love tinkering with computers and anything tech related. I've built many desktop computers and now I'm stuck with a Y510p that doesn't like to be messed with. I bought a nice wireless card for it (Intel 7260 HMW) thinking I'd just slap it in there and be off to the races. I certainly learned my lesson. On the bright side, now I get to mess with the BIOS. -
The more I read about flashing the bios the more upset I get at Lenovo for making us do this. Has anyone contacted Lenovo about this? It's so frustrating.

This is the thread I've been searching for! Thanks everyone for the helpful comments, downloads and advice! Hopefully my laptop will be surfing without any trouble soon!

I bought the same one, sort of... mine came from NewEgg. I was really hoping to have it working today, but I don't think that will happen. I hate the one that came with my laptop.

I just tried changing my WiFi card and I got the Unauthorized Wireless Card Detected message... grrr. I love my laptop, but I don't like it when a manufacturer tries to limit me on how I upgrade it.
