  1. Do you know whats different about the AW 18 that makes it suck so much more than the m18x or other gaming laptops?
  2. it is best to use the original power adapter - - - Updated - - - well actually, if you do this dual power supply mod, I dont see why you need to use any rectifier. from my experience as a electrical engineer, since its DC, you can just combine the + together, the - together and the ground is just ground.
  3. I had the same thing happen to me, but somehow when it showed it was "disconnected" i just unplug the part of the power adapter that hooks to the wall and wait for the green power supply indication light to go off and then replug for the light to turn back on and it has worked back to normal.
  4. so a final summary is that gtx 980m sli will work in both the alienwar m18x r2 and the alienware 18 if running uefi enabled without legacy support? the vbios must be v12 right? and for drivers, where can i get those? Thanks
  5. I followed your instructions as to how to install windows 7 with uefi without legacy, and I am stuck on the "starting windows" page, the windows logo doesnt look like its freezing, but both the usb and the hdd activity led show there is no load. after 1 hour, I just forced shut down.
  6. so in order to get 980m sli working in either alienware 18 or the alienware m18x r2. It is just plug and play i have UEFI with legacy disabled? Will there be any inf modding I need to do? Is there a specific 980m i need to get for alienware or will all 980m work for sli configuration in alienware 18/m18x r2 Thanks!
  7. will these cards be m.x.m 3.0 and will they be usable in alienware 18 (r3) or will i need to mod something for it to work? what price tag are they coming out at?
  8. i have one solution that has fixed every single dead graphics card, you take off the graphics card heatsink, on every memory chip and also on the core, take a piece of tin foil and fold it nicely so when you place it on top of the memory chip/ core it doesnt stick out, then apply thermal paste both between the tinfoil and the heatsink, between the tinfoil and the core/memory chip and also within the tinfoil. now you need to screw the heatsink back on. when you do this, make sure it is a little extra tight. I found this to be always able to fix the graphics card and a permanent fix as long as you dont shake the laptop/graphics card/desktop so much that the screws eventually loosen up. or else you need to retighten the heatsink or you can make the layer of tinfoil thicker. hope this fixes your problem. I have done this on gtx 260m, gtx 280m, 8400gs, gt 9500gt, gtx 680, gtx 780, 8800gt
  9. if i flash my card and it doesnt work, what can i do to fix it or is it already dead? is there no way to recover? will it still work if i only flash one of my cards and not the other? I have alienware m18 with dual 780m, so if i take one out and then flash the remaining one inside the machine, in the case i screw it up, can i just plug the nonflashed into the primary slot and then try to reverse the flash of the bricked one?
  10. so if i use nvflash, it will work with any of these vbios? if i only mod the sliders a bit, i wount have much chance of making a mistake right? its the first time for me to flash a vbios, so any assistance would be nice even though i did quite a bit of reasearch already
  11. I tried with oven toaster, was not successful. I used a heatgun after and it worked.
  12. I thought the r1 and r2 were identical is shape and the motherboard would be interchangable, but dont quote me on that. I think it is.
  13. will alienware m18x r1 upgrade to either of these? I would like to know. thanks
