  1. (Sorry for the double post) After some extended testing, I noticed an issue. Sometimes after an extended power off, when I powered the computer on to boot windows 7, it would start booting, however the animated boot splash logo NEVER showed (only the white "starting windows" text showed). If left alone long enough, the computer eventually rebooted, and then the screen came up that there was a problem with Windows. After going into startup repair, it would also freeze halfway through, then I would get an IOError. After I flashed back to the original BIOS, I have not seen this problem happen again. All my drivers are updated, and all updates are installed. Some other things I changed were: Using NVidia control panel, I changed my LCD to 85hz from 60hz. This seemed to sometimes cause a BSOD on boot (right after the splash screen). Changing back to 60hz seems to have caused that to disappear. I disabled the hibernate feature. I also lowered my page file to 3GB. As I've said though, the IOError seems to be gone after flashing back to the original BIOS. Can anyone confirm this? I have never gotten a problem WHILE Windows was running; only during boot. And to fix the error I had to turn the computer off (no reboot) and boot up again, and it worked again until next time. My laptop model is Asus ROG G75VW-TH71.
  2. Thanks! I've got mine running at 85hz now. It looks so so much better than 60hz. Everything is more fluid.
  3. I have a G75VW-TH71 with a 1600x900 matte display. I was thinking of maybe buying one online and upgrading the display to an amazing 1920x1080 display. As far as I can tell, this would work perfectly, and the connections are compatible. Has anyone here done such a thing, or at least has similar experience? Would this work correctly, and are there any pitfalls I'm unaware of? I was looking at these earlier. They seem to be what I want. Screen for ASUS G75VW-TH71. Replacement Laptop LCD Screens
  4. Somebody here was able to get 10C less by pulling out the blue wire on the fan (it doesn't damage the wire, and you can put it back in later). Basically it allows the fan to default at 100% speed. Try it out if you're interested. http://forum.techinferno.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/3456-%240-spent-10-7-celcius-g75vw.html
  5. Do you have any notable mods on it, like a BIOS mod? If so, see if setting it back to stock fixes it. It could be the settings (where stock settings are good), BIOS, or just a plain issue that plagues this model. If you have it overclocked, then that's the first thing to guess at, because even though you should be able to overclock more, it's never a sure thing. Another thing I could think about if it is overclocked, may be too little voltage. Could be software, RAM, or anything else too. See if you can find any patterns between when it happens, and anything you changed recently. For example, did you do anything to your laptop several months ago which may cause this? Does this problem happen on a fresh install of Windows?
  6. So let me get this right. The only difference between the unlocked overclock edition and the unlocked edition is simply that the overclock edition allows you to overclock more (or perhaps the unlocked one doesn't allow overclock at all)? I know the question seems dead simple and obvious, but I'm just trying to make sure that this is correct. More so, I'm wondering why there are 2 versions available, and not simply just the overclocked one. Maybe people would rather have a standard one, than an extreme one? It seems to me that everyone should just use the overclocked edition in such a case. Can anyone clarify this a little more? Thanks!
  7. Has anyone tried this on a G75VW-TH71 with 1600x900 display (60hz)? It would be quite nice to push the refresh rate higher. I can actually see the refresh rate, and it's quite bothersome. Also, is there any chance that this could have a negative impact on your LCD, even if it works?
