  1. Hey guys! Long time no see! Been ages since I've been here and wow has this place changed! @Briankeep up the great work! I've been pulled away from my computer passion by raising 3 kids! All 6 and under. Crazy how time flies! On to what brings me here. Love you oming for some ideas. My X7200 was recently shutting down randomly. The num lock and caps lock would start flashing and then it'd shut down. CPU and GPU Temps looked good, but fans were running a lot. I figured whatever was hot was something HW Info couldn't see or read. I repasted my GPUs and CPU, put in new thermal pads as well. Unfortunately when I tightened the CPU heatsink, I must have over tightened a screw because it pulled the screw sleeve on the mobo out. Temps are still good, idle around 33°C, and fans run full bore all the time. So it may not have quite enough pressure on a mofset or something. On the plus side, I let the computer sit on for 16-18 hours idle, and it didn't shut down, which solved one issue and created another.Would I be okay to superglue it back down to the mobo? Should I use some other adhesive? Then it would create a tad more pressure, evenly, and possibly solve my fan issue. Damn these old computers. Purchasing a newmobo would probably be more expensive than it's worth. I really need to retire this thing, but it's served me faithfully since Oct 2012. Eventually I'll move to something more mobile and a desktop.
  2. Hey all, long time no see.  Was just browsing and looking to ask a few questions.

Is there no Windows, or software subforum?  Wanted to ask some Rainmeter/HWInfo questions.    Kinda miss the shoutbox too lol.

Hey man, nope there's no longer a general software forum since it was under utilized. We basically culled any forums that weren't active enough over the years and kept the ones with the most activity.

Ah, gotcha.  Definitely makes sense..  Thanks for the notice Brian.  Hope all is well.  Been a while.

  3. Hey man, how you been? So I finally figured it out. A few years ago when I received a new motherboard, for some reason I couldn't boot with hypertheading. I figured whatever killed my mobo also damaged my CPU. So for years I just dealt with occasional blue screens and game crashes and no hypertheading. Bummed because what's the point of a 980x if I can't use it? Well a few days ago I decided to dig into it and find the issue. I started by updating the system bios. That helped as I was able to boot with hypertheading but it made it so I would bluescreen very frequently, to the point I could hardly do anything. So last night I spent hours (till 4am) testing everything I could think of. RAM, Hard drives, GPUs, taking them all out and testing different slots for both RAM and GPUs. In fact I had another 3x8GB set of RAM so swapped that too. I spent hours looking through all the stuff from my deployment in 2013-2014. Did so because I had an i7 920 that I bought to test against my 980x to solve the issues with hypertheading. I couldn't find the 920 and it's probably best that I didn't. I tested drivers, Uninstalled stuff reinstalled ect. Nothing made sense. At 330 am I decided to play in the bios. As it turns out, at default settings with the new motherboard, the 980x wasn't getting enough voltage. By upping that, I was able to mitigate all bluescreens and crashes. I couldn't believe it. Sometimes the simplest things just go right over my head as I tend to over think. I've been able to run a full virus scan of all 4 of my hard drives, create image backups ect. I even have the system overclocked to 4GHz. Seems stable. I havn't had a crash or blue screen since that wasn't related to overclocking. And to think, just updating the bios when I installed the new motherboard and putting my overclock back could have avoided this 3 year headache. How I missed that or neglected to do that... I'll never know. Lol. Guess I can laugh about it now. But that's the story. :-p. Now if I find the 920 I'll bench it just for kicks. My next moves with this system is to update the 160GB OS SSD to a larger SSD and upgrade to 680M SLI. At that point I'll be done upgrading thus system since it's old now. System now has 2x2TB HDDs for storage and backups, a 1TB msata drive for my games. So 5+ TV of space. I also keep my backups on external drives too. I just havn't seen any need to upgrade as its still a very capable system. Don't know when I'll ever replace it, but I'd love to build a desktop. As far as another system like it, don't know if they will continue making one with as much HDD space. Plus I like having many drives to organize things, rather than partitioning. So this system will be with me for the foreseeable future.. :-D Wow that was a rant... Lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
  4. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it did anything for the instability issues I've been having. Trying to do a disk backup of my gaming SSD, it almost immediately BSOD upon start. I'm using Acronis True Image 2013. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
  5. So some of you may remember a nagging issue I had. A few years back (2013-2014) I was deployed and gaming on my X7200. Well at some point I blew ot the motherboard. I had to but a new one. The new motherboard for some reason could not boot with hyperthreading turned on. A huge bummer, essentially making my 980x a large useless processor. Well I used it with hyperthreading turned off for the last two years. I figured I wasn't benching anymore. Anyway today I decided to update to the Prema unlocked bios since I never updated the bios. Low and behold that was my issue! I'm a frigging idiot for not doing that. I meant to a lot, but never was motivated enough. So now it actually runs with hyperthreading! Hopefully this solves some of the stability issues I was having! On another note I completely forgot all I knew about overclocking this system/CPU. I can't change anything and get it to boot, where before I was doing crazy benching and had it fairly stable for everyday use at 4.1GHz But at least I have my 12 threads back! Oh and on another note, I upgraded my two storage HDDs from 1TB, to 2TB drives. Also upgraded my 256GB gaming SSD, to a 1TB mSATA drive. My OS is on a 160GB SSD. so in total I have over 5TB (4 internal drives) of space inside the "laptop" :-D Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
  6. Man, do they even have traffic laws there? Lol Here in the US I wouldn't try it simply because everyone driver is starting at there phones sending tweets. Much less looking in a rear view mirror. Looks like it really cuts down on your commute lol. I used to ride crazy, I remember riding along side an 18 Wheeler on the highway with my hand up on the side if the trailer. Lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
  7. Makes me miss my bike. But I'm crazy in the ride wheelies sense, not the traffic weaving sense. Lol havn't ridden since 2009 when I put my bike in a garage. Still sitting on stands. Sadly. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
  8. Man, my so late to the game. Life had taken over as I have an almost 3 year old now. But this is awesome! Congrats man and we'll deserved! How are you liking the new desktop? Bet it's putting up some dope numbers! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
  9. I've recently gotten into trading stocks and reading and learning about it. Tried a few trades with some volatile penny stocks. Evenly picked up 10 shares of Fitbit (FIT) stock, and 5 shares of two other IPOs. A solar company (CAFD), (partnership really) and a restaurant, FOB de Chao. Well see but this may be my latest hobby. Anyone else get into it? I'd like to make enough to simply pay off my student loans. Lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
  10. I did get it fixed, sorta. I replaced the motherboard. Don't remember about the plastic though as it has been a while. Also, now my laptop won't run with Hyper threading. When I turn it on with hyper threading enabled in the bios it BSOD and boot loops trying to load windows. With hyperthreading disabled, it boots fine. BSOD every once in a while which Im learning to live with. Sorry for resurecting an old thread
  11. I'm currently on the hunt for a cheap i7 for that very thing. Found a potential lead on an i7 920 over at overclock. net Feel like it's expensive diagnosing this. If the CPU is part of the problem, in the last year I would have replaced the mobo, ram, CPU and screen. I've had bad luck with this system. LOL. Next time I go Clevo I'll be sure to maintain a warranty. Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  12. Yea I'm currently running memtest86 on each individual stick separately. However, fist stick I tried showed no errors and still would not allow for hyper threading to be on with out boot looping. I think the CPU may have been damaged too Whatever happened to kill the mobo, sure did a number on the system. Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  13. Looks like I'll most likely be ordering more RAM. Hopefully the next batch is reliable. Now after looking on Newegg my story seems common for this type of ram. Go figure... Corsair Value Select... 24GB for $100...G.Skill it is next time. I should have know better lol I've had luck with G. Skill, are there any other RAM brands in should consider? I've also had luck with Kingston Hyper-X. Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  14. Thanks I went to eat and let it keep running and came back with a lot more errors. Bought them from Newegg. Since they don't sell 3x8GB, I bought a 2x8GB set and a 1x8GB stick of the same brand and everything. However, on my last motherboard, Windows said I had 24gb, and 16gb usable. I had figured on Dimm slot had died. So once I test them all individually, I should have a better idea. I'd rather buy the ram then a new CPU. Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  15. OK, so I've been having lots of BSOD, and even Linux Mint has been crashing. A couple days back I ran memtest86 and didn't have any errors. Although it was an old copy of memtest86. Since I installed Linux Mint, it also has a copy of memtest86 to boot too. I decided I'd boot to it. Ran it while I slept. Here's what I got. I think this might explain all the BSOD I've been having. I really hope it's the memory and not the CPU. I really want this problem fixed. This has been the first good news I've had trying to diagnose the issue. Just don't know how the memory could have gone bad Any idea if this is any Dimm in particular, or all 3 dimms are bad? I think it looks like a single Dimm. Just not sure which one. Would this explain why I can't boot with hyper threading? Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  16. Ran memtest86 for 20 hours with no errors. I'll need to run prime95 or something next to see if it's a cpu issue. Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  17. Yea I'm running a very through memtest86 right now. It's been going for 8+ hours. I'll let it run for the next day or so. So far no errors. I'll let it run for at least 24 hours. I'm hoping it's a memory issue, and not a damaged cpu. I suppose if my motherboard up and died, it could have damaged the cpu too. It's odd because the way my motherboard died, I didn't expect it. I shut down my computer via start menu, and it shut down. Unplugged the system, took it to my room, pressed power, and absolutely nothing. So hopefully I have some memory error lol Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  18. Disregard that, I had to turn legacy usb on Updated both the EC and bios. Still can't turn hyper threading on without it just black screening, and auto restarting. Doesn't even BSOD. Also getting a lot of BSOD in Windows. Every few hours or more. Mostly 0x50,page fault in nonpaged area. Some 0xA, IRQL not less or equal. Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  19. Hmm, used Rufus and for some reason it won't boot to the USB drive Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  20. I'd love a copy too! Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
  21. Tried running the updates, though windows and says it's not compatible with my version of windows. Do I need to run these through a bootable USB?
  22. Awesome. Thanks Prema! Are there unlocked versions? Or AE these unlocked? Really appreciate the links. Once I get off work I'll flash them. Sent from my DROID RAZR XT912 / CM 10.2
  23. Yea, I think that's going to be my next step. Sent from my DROID RAZR XT912 / CM 10.2
  24. Well I took my caddy with my OS SSD and my gaming SSD and flipped the disks. That seemed to work once. Got into windows. Then it gave me another BSOD. Same behavior as before. Then I turned off hyper threading in the Bios and now my system will boot and run. It was late and I was exhausted so I'm not sure if the SSD swap helped or not. But now I know that if I have hyper threading on, it will BSOD while windows is loading. Any ideas as to why? Sent from my DROID RAZR XT912 / CM 10.2
  25. That's good news. But would that be the case if I was also trying to boot off a Ubuntu disc? When my first mobo died, I wasn't using SSDs in RAID. I hope it's a corrupt OS, all I got is a friends 5+ year old Mac lol. Sent from my DROID RAZR XT912 / CM 10.2
