  1. Many many months after Intel issued probably final microcode-update-guidance 2018-04-02 https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2018/04/microcode-update-guidance.pdf 2018-08-02 https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/sa00115-microcode-update-guidance.pdf It is "safe" to say that fix is stable enough for modding it in - I volunteer my laptop as guinea pig for The Fix.
  2. A little more than a week ago, Microsoft released emergency Windows updates to deactivate previous buggy security updates from Intel. This happened after the chip maker acknowledged that its firmware updates meant to address the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities could cause system instability, including random reboots. Intel made very little progress on the fixes, Haswell has no stable MCU fixes https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2018/02/microcode-update-guidance.pdf Microsoft releases new emergency Windows update to deactivate Intel’s buggy security patches on your PC.
  3. I'm just saying, let's not rush things. https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2018/01/microcode-update-guidance.pdf
  4. About y510p i7 4700MQ overclocking. OC form 3.4GHz up to 3.6GHz is possible via Intel XTU or ThrottleStop 8. I would suggest undervolting CPU anyway -75mV should be stable with or without OC. Many units require CPU/GPU repaste - it was done poorly by Lenovo. Klem made a 3.08 BIOS/UEFI biosmod but I got cold feet before flashing. If anyone is interested in testing Klem's Biosmod whisper him, most of people here wanted latest Biosmod. Is Bios 2.07 with EC 3.05 stable? (If the new mod was successful would be possible to mix 2.07 bios with EC3.08) Referring to Y510p external Ultrabay Graphics card
  5. Arctic Silver 5 is one of the better compounds on market. its electrically non conductive, but its not an insulator. Ceramique 2 i recommended is slightly less effective but also electrically non conductive and an insulator. Other safe bets(besides Arctic Silver - 5) Arctic - MX 2 Arctic - MX 4 Prolimatech PK 1 Phobya HeGrease Extreme Articles about compounds: Thermal Paste Roundup - Puget Custom Computers 80-way Thermal Interface Material Performance Test | Thermal Interface Material,Thermal Paste,Heatsink Compound,80-Way Thermal Interface Material Best Thermal Paste Heatsink Compound Cooling Performance Comparison Benchmark Tests Thermal Compound Roundup - February 2012 | Hardware Secrets Thermal Paste Comparison, Part One: Applying Grease And More - Everything You Wanted To Know About Cooling A CPU Thermal Paste Comparison, Part Two: 39 Products Get Tested - 39 Thermal Compounds Get Benchmarked And Tested @Also I can't decide between those two cooling pads, which one do to recommend? Amazon.com: Targus Lap Chill Mat for Laptop, Black/Gray (AWE55US): Electronics Amazon.com: Cooler Master NotePal X-Slim Ultra-Slim Laptop Cooling Pad with 160mm Fan (R9-NBC-XSLI-GP): Computers & Accessories Average cooling may be as good as there was none. Some cheaper models offer only placebo effect. Read carefully more articles about pads. Some articles are sponsored and may deceive. Take some time to read before deciding. Buying twice is a worst scenario. I belive in heavy metal pads I recommended were theoretically for 17 inch laptops. NC-2000 i mentioned is very heavy and smartly enginereed. U3+ has optimal(manual)l fan placement. U2+(model for 15 inch laptops)is also relatively good - manual fan placement
  6. GC Extreme 3,5g should be enough to repaste 10-12 processors. other example Arctic Silver Ceramique 2 $4.99 for 2,7g Arctic Silver CMQ2-2.7G Céramique 2 Tri-Linear Ceramic Thermal Compound - OEM - Newegg.com So get a bit cheaper one look at few reputable compound tests. Just don't pick compound from the bottom of the charts.
  7. I found out something interesting about UEFI/BIOS. Checked with Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0 and fptw64 (these two always generate exactly same dumps) Bios dump if I change BIOS setting, Is it supposed to be like that?
  8. In short term it will not damage in long term it may. Do you use cooling pad? - It may reduce temperature by 5 to 7 celsius degrees. My recommendation: Cooler Master NotePal U3 PLUS - Laptop Cooling Pad with Three Configurable High Performance Fans - Black - Newegg.com or ZALMAN Notebook Cooler ZM-NC2000 Black - Newegg.com Did you use premium (non metal) thermal compound for repaste? 9. I know that it will sound odd However, can You make remove wifi white-list fix only 3.05 bios? Reason - The most valuable feature included, low profile, safer before full blown mod will be rock stable.
  10. 3dmark free edition would be sufficient as stability test.
  11. EDIT: "Vbios - you should now get proper boost all the time and full control with under- and overvolting capabilities." IMO UV /OV should be same for both and propered boost in ultrabay to 1058.5 seems not to work. You may use Kepler Bios Tweaker to look at designed changes.
  12. So theoretically anyone can flash it(ultrabay nvidia card) with Windows nvflash, just replacing original file with your moded is required. for 755M get files from NVIDIA GeForce GT755M Second VGA BIOS Update for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y410p, Y510p - Lenovo (US) rename 755mOC.rom to A832.rom and replace original A832.rom with it flash with method provided by Lenovo for 750M get files from NVIDIA GeForce GT750M Second VGA BIOS Update for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y410p, Y510p - Lenovo (US) rename 750mOC.rom to 9D3D.rom and replace original 9D3D.rom with it flash with method provided by Lenovo Also modded BIOS will work with stock(without voltage tinkering potential) or modded firmware 750M/755M. EITED multiple times because errors in post.
  13. There is newer version of nvflash Download NVFlash 5.136 | techPowerUp
  14. My only suggestion attach 510p-Y410p_v207_[stock].zip and Fptw64_(8_series).zip files into first or second post post. Is the reverting from modded 3.05 to stock 3.05 theoretically possible with lenovo 3.05 bios update file? Or it should done be after some bios revert/ec revert? Could you give some hints, because for majority of people warranty is crucial. I know I've asked just it was posted much later due to late moderation and posting final 3.05 makes thread reboot. Could you explain how did you optimized VBIOS for performance?
