[HARDWARE MOD] Clevo P150/P170 cooling system (solutions here)

Yep, my point was perhaps the 100% setting is toggled to "on" (ie set to 100% instead of auto). -
Nothing wrong with the GTX660 but personally I would stump up the extra for the 760. It will be noticeably quicker in a number of games (compare using something like Anand's benhc - use a 670 if the 760 comparison isn't available as they perform about the same).

In terms of outright performance both setups will return about the same FPS. The 780TI will be better at higher resolutions or games which use a lot of VRAM (whether they require it or not) - like Watchdogs. Honestly though, if you can pick up the 670 cheaply I would go down that option and upgrade properly when the true next gen Maxwell cards hit. Alternatively look at a GTX780 (non TI) and overclock it. At around 1200/7000 it should match up reasonably well to a stock 780TI.

Does hitting FN&1 reduce the fan speed? It is possible that yours is "switched on" so to speak. My P170SM sets the fan speed at 100% (or near as makes no difference) once the 780M goes over 88 degrees.
