  1. So, I tried the EC setup on the w540 using a v6 GDC , and have similar results. The laptop detects and shows the card ( a 750TI) in the device manager. However when i connect a monitor to the card nothing displays. I have the onboard k2100m disabled in windows 8 and still no go. Any suggestions from anyone ?
  2. Then it should be a simple plug and play setup I think. Have you tried win 7 ? possibly faulty cables?
  3. Hi I was thinking of getting w540 myself, but do the Expresscard egpu setup. Do you know what your TOLUD was for the w540 ? are you running windows 8.1 ?
  4. Has anyone managed to get the GDC v6 and a lenovo t430 to work ? if so can someone kindly guide me to a successful implementation guide ? Thanks
  5. The switches didnt seem to help. However it is definately a timing issue for detection. I very quickly inserted, pulled out, and re inserted the egpu from the express card slot and it seemed to then detect the card and everything is working again on a external monitor. I cant seem to figure out how to consistently get it to boot up correctly though
  6. Hi, I am having an issue. I got the setup to work with a gtx750 the exp gdc v6 and a HP zbook. I had to disable my dgpu and when i plugged in the egpu in windows it auto detected it. I installed drivers and restarted. The plugged back the egpu and everything worked. This morning, I rebooted and it cant seem to find the egpu when plugged in. If i plug it in the fans on the egpu are going super fast and doesnt slow down. I had renabled my dgpu and tried disabling that, but no luck. Still wont recognize the egpu. I tried plugging it in during boot (windows logo) and still wont find it. The fans on the egpu are going super fast and loud. Any advice?
  7. Thanks for the info. One more question. Do connect your external monitor from your laptop or from the egpu ? Does it make a difference ? I don't see a connection in your picture. Thanks
  8. Just put in the order for the v6. I am scouring craigslist for a good deal on a gpu while I wait on it to arrive Now I have a hp zbook 17 but it comes with a switchable intel HD 4600 (igpu) and NVidia K1100m (dgpu). Would my first step be to disable the dgpu, connect up the egpu, reboot and install the drivers for the egpu and reboot ? Does one unplug the egpu during these boots/reboots? I already checked my TOLUD and I have more than enough on the zbook to attempt. The zbook also comes with a thunderbolt port, but I did not want to invest in a more expensive adapter just yet. I also have a 2012 rmbp 15" , that someday I would like to try this on, but I have not found any articles where people have successfully done an egpu on the 2012 15" retina mbp.
  9. Is there a step by step write up of how you got this adapter to work ? Would much appreciate it. Thanks
  10. I was trying to do an UEFI install of Windows 8.1 on 2012 MacBook pro and followed these suggestion. The part I am stuck on is the deleting the display drivers. I Do not see the file to delete, yet my screen is still black. PLease can someone offer suggestions on what to do ? Thanks
  11. Hi guys. Been browsing the forums lately and thinking of setting an egpu up for my HP zbook 17. i5 4330 @ 2.8 Ghz, Windows 7 64 bit 16 Gb Ram intel HD 4600 - igpu NVidia K1100m - dgpu I am wanting to put a gtx 650 as a egpu into this setup. Currently the igpu and dgpu are switchable. I have looked at my TOLUD and my machine is good for egpu setup. Some questions I have. 1. Do I need to disable and uninstall the K1100m dgpu first and then plug in the new egpu. Or do I need to purchase the setup 1.x and do the disable that way? 2. Does every install of an egpu require Setup 1.x to get everything working ? 3. Is it possible to keep all three gpu's working in the machine and would it make any sense to use the K1100m as the PhysX processor? Any ideas on that one? 4. Is it always better to feed the egpu to a separate monitor ? If anyone can clarify those it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  12. One more question. I am also confused if I need to purchase a separate monitor for attempting egpu on this laptop. Currently the igpu and dgpu are switchable I don't see Optimus mentioned anywhere about NVidia k1100m chip, but there is PhysX enabled and working. Would adding an egpu mean I have to disable the k1100m and/or get a separate monitor for better performance. Trying to minimize costs as much as possible. Thanks.
  13. Thank you for the response Nando. You are correct it is a HP 17 inc zbook. I have been looking at doing an egpu since the dgpu on the machine is a quaddro k1100m that seems to be hardware limited. To save costs the plan is to do a Express card egpu for now (I have a spare gtx 650) . If I don't screw things up and things work, I might consider attempting a thunderbolt solution next year, possibly invest in the Sonnet Echo Express Pro.
