  1. if its just 5 bucks difference go for the 1866 sticks u wont really feel any difference compared to 1600 but with this lil difference it cant hurt right? dont worry about the cpu, itll be able to handle 1866 just fine
  2. how abouuut...go for the SE with a 4K display and a 970M and oc the crap out of it (at least so it reaches 980m levels)
  3. oops, thanked u by accident anyways, u have to delete all stock refresh rates in cru and then input a new custom one. that ull have to set to lcd automatic and input the refresh rate that u want. after saving everything ull have to reboot and it should stick
  4. with models like these where upgradeability is limited due to soldered components i wouldnt take any risks and just go for the maximum config right away (which i did )
  5. u understood me wrong concerning the 2.5" drives. i was actually talking about 2.5" SSDs, not mechanical drives. also pointing to 4KB write/read speeds (important for everyday system speed) not 4K display but yeah, if u already have a mechanical 750GB drive that ud like to use then of course thats an important factor for using M.2 drives.
  6. just keep in mind that raid 0 has a higher risk of data loss when compared to using one single drive. there definitely are several mainboard revisions since cpu and gpu are both soldered in, so in order to account for all possible hardware combos there will be different mobo revisions concerning the m.2 slots: one of them is a combo sata/pcie slot, the other one exxlusively sata. m.2 ssds have either two gaps (sata only) or one gap (more pins, thus sata/pcie) in their connectors, thus the machine automatically detects which kind of m.2 ssd is plugged in. what id also like to know though, is if i could still use the pcie ssd in combination with a second, separate (i.e. non-raid) m.2 ssd in sata more or is it really fact that one u install the pcie ssd the second slot is deactivated? edit: btw, why not go for 2 2.5" drives instead? afaik those are still way faster than pretty much all m.2 drives, especially when it comes to 4K speeds
  7. ...especially considering that an oced 980m will be just as fast as 880m in sli, and that without the usual sli issues
  8. oced the internal screen of my p150hm from 60 to 90hz just fine for like 2-3 years using cru. i could go up to 93-95 hz before getting any artifacts, but kept it at 90hz just for the sake of having a nice even figure @sofacylel: btw, thx for the headsup on svp, will check it out! ps: no surprise there@no noticeable difference going upwards of 90hz, since the human eye cant really process more than 100-120 hz. sure there are always more sensible people around who even see differences upwards of that, but at 200hz+ (the latest!) it just gets superfluous, if u ask me...
  9. gee, the users are keeping u pretty busy here prema i think its time i take a looksy looksy around here, since NBR seems awfully quiet these days... ill surely be back in this thread soon for a potential P6xxSx bios mod keep up the good work buddy and dont let urself be stressed too much
  10. yess finally!! been waiting for that review forever! (since yesterday ) ps: so the 650/651 just differ by their casing texture hm? interesting tidbit of info
  11. hey buddy, good to see u here as well on TI have u tried the sticks at 1866 mhz via xtu first? could be that 2133 at the comparably tight timings of the kingston sticks are just too much for the integrated memory controller in the cpu to handle... Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  12. i for one am using my laptop at work every day and ive yet had to encounter a situation where it was SO quiet that u would even notice the fans at all during idle. i mean, seriously, when is it ever so quiet in an office that one could hear a needle drop on the floor? cuz thats exactly what it would take to hear the fans at idle... imho its all about perspective. just dont make the mistake to actively listen and concentrate on the fans! who does that, anyways? i for one have way better things to do at work than that Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  13. running the dell vbios on my HM here without any issues just dont know if it may interfere with the switchable graphics on ur EM machine... u could go straight to the source and ask svl7 politely for a modded EM vbios would also surely help ur cause if u dropped some beer money on his paypal account since he is a pretty busy fellow! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  14. clevorr, try to loosen up ur timings to like CL12 when applying 1866mhz. then when the clocks stick stably, tighten the timings one by one again to find ur sweet spot Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  15. always depends on ur perspective: if uve got nothing else to do than actively listening to any potential fan noise then sure clevos have huuuge issues with fan noise. if, on the other hand, ure actually DOING smth on ur machine like working, gaming, watching movies then no, u wont notice the fans Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  16. always consider that ure just able to measure the power draw at the socket. since most laptop psu's are rated at 85-90% efficiency, ull have to subtract 10-15% from the measured load to get the actual power draw of ur system Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  17. same with the 38xxqm models tho Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  18. in case u havent already solved ur issue: definitely check the proper heatsink installation and thermal pad placement. the modded vbios posted on nbr has already been shown to work just fine on w8x0cu machines Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  19. weird, how is that?not being able to change vbios anymore. what kinda error message do u get when trying to flash a different one now? Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  20. jealous as well! still trying to figure out if i should go with the corsair vengeance 1866 2x8GB kit or try my luck with those crazily ocable samsung sticks....well, ill have to wait anyways, gotta get some funds together first
  21. wow, this mod is just waaaay out there! amazing what kinda stuff the guys around here are up to! im slowly getting the feeling that ive been missing out on NBR kudos to you, luoxia!
  22. it kinda depends on the source actually... if u buy older gen gpus from official (commercial) shops / sellers, theyre mostly more expensive due to scarcity. on the other hand, buying from private sellers like on ebay will get u way lower prices than what they cost when they came out
  23. hm, were u thinking about replacing the stock fans or adding additional ones? the latter ive already seen, albeit in a "ghetto" fashion in that the modder used heat conducting glue to fix the additional low profile fans onto the gpu and cpu heatsinks
  24. hm, good to know that there are restrictions to modding a 300W+ psu for the P150HM. but then again, would it be really necessary to use one of those when (in theory, at least) the 780M could be made compatible with the HM/EM series? i reckon the dell 240w psu can still provide sufficient power for "regular" gpu+xm cpu overclocks....at least thats what im hoping
  25. so glad you were able to get the necessary donations together prema and also regret that i wasnt able to take part in it! im soooo totally broke atm, its not even funny anymore still keeping an eye out on future developments btw, how did u get ur hands on such a comparably "cheap" 780M? at 500€ thats pretty much a steal!
