There will be an improvement, but not as dramatic as with a PC.
If you can get your hands on a 2nd hand GTX 980Ti, that could be the better deal!

Can you disable the 750m by any chance?!

1) Where did you get a correctly rated barrel plug?
2) If you just grabbed one off e-bay or something, are you not worried about overloading it? I am not an electrical engineer, so am I worrying for nothing here?
3) I have some rated at 50v, 1a. Will these work?
2) when the sit tight it should be fine
3) amp is more important since it will cause the load on the cable

I have ordered the part to complete this however i just wanted to make sure of one thing. I can use any 12v leads on a PSU for the barrel plug correct? My plan is to use the the 2 yellow and and 2 ground on the 24 pin ATX plug to power the box then a ground and the turn-on wire to a switch for the PSU to turn on. Obviously with the 8 pin to my GPU as well.
Why the 24-pin? Another 8-pin is much more suited to provide much more power.

TB3 eGPUs are the future!

I would comfortably say that any simple 1070 will run, but a FTW with a very open power target might have some power consumption spikes.
Why the FTW anyway? That is a huge card.

Is there are chance of upgrading to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10? External display is an option?

Especially with TB3 it does not make sense!
The competition will be way too big. Razer Core should be much better.

Seems like there is another eGPU kickstarter: http://www.overclock3d.net/news/gpu_displays/the_wolfe_thunderbolt_gpu_enclosure_hits_kickstarter/1
QuoteTechnical (Wolfe):
- GPU: Nvidia GTX 950
- - I/O: 3x Displayport, 1x HDMI, 1x Thunderbolt
- - Power: 220 Watt Mobile PSU
Technical (Wolfe Pro):
- - GPU: Nvidia GTX 970
- - I/O: 3x Displayport, 1x HDMI, 1x Thunderbolt
- - Power: 220 Watt Mobile PSU
Let me guess which 220W PSU it is ^^

Your barrel plug has to be 5.5 x 2.5mm! 2.1mm will NOT fit

Which Silverstone SG01? There are multiple versions. And I am pretty sure, that with some modding you can mount long cards as well
-
Barrel plug: does it wiggle? If there is any chance the connection is not 100%....
Heat: Maybe the PSU gets too hot. PSUs get less efficient the warmer they are. Is the crash under load?
TB cable: Any chance to get your hands on a cable that is not the thin AKiTiO one? E.g. Apple 2m TB cable.

Hmmm... I would have guessed that the LEICKE would do fine... can you underclock your card and check? Does the barrel plug sit tight plugged in?

Which 750Ti? Which PSUs?

You can not combine both TB ports! The planed setup looks fine, but (AFAIK) nobody knows how to force eGPUs to run on the internal display.

What is AGPM?

It really seems like you have to somehow disable the 750M to create enough "free recources" for the eGPU.

Hi,
1/ should be fine, but you can break it down to just one of the two (barrel or powered riser)
2/ OSX should boot fine with an eGPU, did you do a reboot after the script? Check the monitor settings in OSX and try using an external display.
3/4 better ask in goalques thread
