Help needed with eGPU setup iMac/Akitio
Dschijn replied to croqodil's topic in Apple eGPU discussion
Do you provide power to the GPU as well? -
Of course it needs the barrel plug...
-
Can you post a picture of your hardware?
-
Quick question, which graphics card are you going to use?
-
@unseenmars There are scripts to disable the monitor (I think on github). Do NOT use sleep with an eGPU! @cogliostro Hmmm... weird. Please check if all cables are fitting propperly. Maybe the TB cable wiggles a bit?
-
No, the 1350W PSU is better. Could you post a picture of your hardware or make list of all the parts?! You shouldn't use a powered riser!

[GUIDE] Making a molex-to-barrel adapter
Dschijn replied to jacobsson's topic in Enclosures and Adapters
Just make sure the 12V is inside the barrel plug and ground on the outside of the barrel plug. -
220W Dell DA-2 AC adapter discussion
Dschijn replied to jacobsson's topic in Enclosures and Adapters
Could work, but make sure the wires can carry some amps, if you want to daisy chain them. Better to solder them into a parallel setup. One very important thing to keep in mind is, that the pins have to match the pinout of the DA-2 (look at page 1), so you don't mix 12V and ground. You will also need to include the 7th pin to make the DA-2 start. -
Sometimes the boot up is bitchy. You need to get used to that. For some people only 70% of the boots are flawless.

Recommended GPU that fits nicely into Akitio
Dschijn replied to andrewmac84's topic in Apple eGPU discussion
The R9 Nano has been very expensive before and nobody bought it. Also there have been reports about stability problems with AMD cards paired with an AKiTiO. The Nano should fit, but I am not sure if a Dell DA-2 can handle that GPU. The following 970s fit: - Zotac GTX 970 (the short one) - KFA2 GTX 970 Gamer OC - Galax GTX 970 Gamer OC or the name was... - Galaxy GTX 970 Gamer OC -
Error12, need help, new Mac Pro + 980 Ti in Win10
Dschijn replied to heeroyuyj's topic in Apple eGPU discussion
There seems to be a way, but the guys who claim to have figuered it out are very slowly releasing informations. More teasing the community and throwing dirt... -
Any card faster than a GTX 750 Ti will need some modifications on the case to improve cooling / air flow.

Error12, need help, new Mac Pro + 980 Ti in Win10
Dschijn replied to heeroyuyj's topic in Apple eGPU discussion
There is only netkas and MacVideoCards that claim to have a nMP running with an eGPU in Windows.Nobody else made it until now. But they are not releasing any information about this. -
I think this the wrong section in the forum to get propper help. Also in my understanding of TB absed eGPUs you should swap the 60W PSU and only use the much bigger PSU. Using the 60W PSU might be the reason for instability, if the card has peaks loads higher than 60W and the PCIe adapter also needs some power.

In theory yes, in the real world: not always Was just trying to give you an idea to change it to use only 1 good PSU. Even a 750Ti can have power peaks over 60W!

Uh I am not familiar with the EXP GDC v8.0, but you should only use one PSU. 60W is not enough, can you make sure to only use the 400W? What 400W PSU is it? Sounds like an old/noname PSU.

akitio + gtx 980 ti ,, frame rate is so bad . why
Dschijn replied to MoathSama's topic in DIY e-GPU Projects
@MoathSama Well, what did have your settings been? Please use the stability test in the Intel XTU after you lowered your volateg. Maybe yours can only take -40mV or sth else. @gharimanto The CPU starts to throttle at 99-100°C.
