  1. I'm not sure that the 680M will even work in the GT780. The 16F2 has trouble with it.... perhaps a Dell might work, but Clevo/MSI are no-shows.
  2. No problem. They are no necessarily the same. Some people have reported problems when flashing the retail BIOS onto a barebone. I.E.: the left USB 2.0 port no longer works, etc. The turbo core ratio is a 2nd-gen Sandy Bridge problem. Intel introduced a bitlocker to prevent multiplier changes. You'd have to ask Unclewebb about that and see if he'd be able to do something about it. Look at me, I've got a 2920XM and I share your pain. Power limits are through BIOS, TS can't change them. Again, a 2nd-gen Core-i problem. Yessir. Hi, yes. It should be under 'Chipset' tab, but I'm having trouble unlocking the chapter. I've done what I normally do, but it won't show for some reason. You are the 2nd person to report this. I can try another way, maybe hexeditor might help or re-routing the location in the BIOS file to another chapter (creating a new one). There is a chapter that has all the generic options available, but completely hidden. Problem is, I don't have a 3rd-gen MSI to test it on, so I can't push any updates quickly and I rely on your guys' feedback greatly! I will look into this problem now that I've gotten solid confirmation. I'm moving this Wednesday so I'll be busy packing up and settings things up this week, so don't expect anything soon.
  3. Ok. Did you have a BIOS password?
  4. I have been unable to find this magical BIOS anywhere. Uh, which one is it? 1761 or 1762.... read the original post more carefully. Yes, original post updated. Sorry to keep you waiting, was busy with work for the past 4 days. By the way -- was there a BIOS password on the file you uploaded? Let me know how it goes!
  5. Unfortunately (more like fortunately) his notebook doesn't have Optimus, so he can't use the iGPU. Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
  6. I don't think there is one for 1st-gen i7. Just uping the Turbo button / multipliers. BCLK is for 2nd and 3rd gen.
  7. Excellent points. The MSRP for Alienwares is a bit higher than the competition, but those are some compelling reasons to cough up a little extra on your next machine. If you can get some sort of discounts, i.e.: student, military, EEP, or simply haggling etc, then Alienwares are no brainers.
  8. Good info pau1ow. I was going off results before the solder fix and TS fix were known. Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk 2
  9. The Dell 580M has throttling issues. The Clevo works fine. If you buy a Dell, you'll need to flash the Clevo vBIOS on it to eliminate GPU throttling. Also, it draws a lot of power. You'll either need to solder a wire to the MXM slot or simply use TS to fix the CPU throttle that will happen. I recommend the later.
  10. Ok, I will look when I have time.
  11. Hi ezsolt, Welcome to T|I! You can try my unlocked BIOS once you reach 5 quality posts on this forum. Please let me know if there are any issues / feedback. Also, Clevo 680M doesn't work in a 16F2, doubt it will work with any of the 2nd-gen i7 G-series notebooks. @pau1ow will be testing a Dell 680M to see if it works. Thanks! Glad everything works out fine. Would you mind posting some screenshots of the main menus (you don't have to dig deep, just like the screenshots I have on the 2nd post). I just want to make sure everything is unlocked. Sorry about the 7970M not working in the 16F3. It looks like the GPU mux that MSI is using resembles that of Clevo's (which has a terrible reputation). The 16F2 doesn't use the iGPU at all, Optimus/Enduro are not supported so upgrades should be easier for the end-users with these notebooks. Hi Chritter, The BIOS structure looks very similar to the GT70. The 3rd gen-i7 notebooks seem to have good success when flashing either series (whitebook / retail, vice-versa). You can try flashing the GT70 unlocked BIOS and see if that works. If you have trouble, you can always pull the CMOS and/or flash the backup you just uploaded for me. If you have trouble with the GT70 BIOS, I will unlock the one you just posted. I'd like you to try the GT70 BIOS first because we have confirmation of it working with the whitebook model. Thanks
  12. No clue, looks like the notebook's GPU is muxed like Clevo's; the dGPU passes through the iGPU, so you can't disable it. I'd love to be wrong though, because I hate Enduro/Optimus.
  13. Hi Gary, First, welcome to T|I. Second, unfortunately, the rules are what they are because of a massive influx of new users who create accounts just to leech the files (and then upload them to other sites). It's much easier for the devs to consolidate all information and testing in one place and this is the thread for it. I'm sure you can find four more posts to make; they don't have to be ground-breaking. As long as they add to the discussion they are considered good posts. Also, PM'ing is disabled for new users until they also reach 5 posts. I hope to see you around and hear back on your testing once you've reached five posts!
  14. Brian, did they delete your 2nd post? I saw one earlier when I was at work, but I dont see it anymore after the mods decided to chime in.
  15. Free laughs anyone? Contacted Clevo's support (again) but...
  16. Thanks. Yes, you can enable/disable VT-x. You have a GT680/683 notebook. If you want the unlocked BIOS, flash this one: MS-GT680/683(15.6''): .30Z You can OC the BCLK by up to 4%. You cannot change the multipliers of an XM CPU.
  17. Nice work Paul. Is there a notable difference in temps? How'd you do it? Where'd you get the mesh? Sorry for all the questions but I'm interested in this mod .
  18. Not that I am aware of. People have tried it in the 16F2/GT683 and it works. Please limit the discussion of this thread to the MSI BIOS. You should create a new thread for any unrelated questions. Thanks.
  19. Haha, I guess you and @Michael don't have to worry about it then.
  20. Have you tried the 20 x 20 mm to see if they fit? Or are 15 x 15 mm the only ones that fit the PCH.
  21. You can try using this method. Pau1ow uses it for his GT70. If not, contact Pherein. Force fans to go faster?
  22. Heh, @Brian might have some extras leftover. Although, shipping costs will be the biggest killer.
  23. I don't know. If you have an OEM Windows key it shouldn't matter, otherwise you can always call MS to activate. Sent from my Sensation
