  1. I threw down $20 last week. Didn't get a chance to play when the server was full, was busy doing CompSci.
  2. The decision is final: Poll: Do you wish for the ban placed on Tech Inferno Fan to be reversed? @Ivar I have deleted one of your posts (You say essentially the same thing in both). Back to introductions with this thread.
  3. Just curious what everyone else is gaming with: I'll start first: Mouse: Logitech G500 DPI: 3,000 Mousepad: cheapest Steelseries mousepad (got it for $5) Comments: Previously I've used: Razer Diamondback, Logitech MX516 and MX518. The G500 is simply too big and slippery versus the MX516/8 that I've used for so long. I like the additional weights you can add the mouse though. The wire tubes are threaded as well, which looks nice, but in practicality the thread easily tears.
  4. Ah cool, I'll have to check it out. I'm not too keen on SC2 CGs; only really played squadron TD (Legion TD for WC3). I did map edit for WC3 though, which by the way had the best CG collection ever. I'll gladly talk about CGs and map edit. Anyways, let's take it to another thread or PM?
  5. I used to play SC2. Got up to top25 platinum 1v1 but then I lost interest in the game. What about you?
  6. Welcome Sgogeta4! You're a very familiar and helpful face I've seen over at NBR. If you haven't combed through the entire thread, these two posts are a TL;DR of what T|I is: http://forum.techinferno.com/off-topic/1834-introduce-yourself.html#post23044 and http://forum.techinferno.com/off-topic/1834-introduce-yourself.html#post23132 I think you'll find T|I a great place because of the lax environment. We don't have a hidden agenda; what you see in the forum rules is what the mod team enforces. Nothing more. Sick phone and I think you've found the best thread. I believe @Brian is also finishing up med school.
  7. I'd say no, it's not recommended for this specific notebook. Most other notebooks I would say yes. This one draws air from the keyboard so a cooler from the bottom will do little. I have personally tested this. Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
  8. Ah, well you said you were bullied for several months so I figured this was starting to become a serious problem for you. I understand now, it's just with that one mod. By posting the link to your first post you will probably have no chance at being unbanned because you have a picture with a PM, which is against their rules. It's a shame because the PM tells half the story, but that's why I've held off on posting this link, FYI. (I'm pretty sure I'd get banned too)
  9. You've got some bravery to want to keep your stuff there if they unban you. Who's to say they won't snap again and harass you? Either way, best of luck to you. Hope this unnecessary mess can get sorted through quickly.
  10. Nando - like I said before, law is not my field of expertise, so I don't want to provide you with any misinformation. All I can do is state opinions at this point. The best way I think of it is like this: NBR is not a true public community. They are business entity. When you go on NBR and you post something, you are not posting because you have an inalienable right to post on NBR, but rather, you are posting because NBR gives your the privilege to have a discussion on their property (after all, they are paying for the servers). NBR doesn't owe you anything, nor do they have to care about your right of free speech because you are using their property and services. It's unfortunate that this is the way I see NBR now, but reality is harsh. I used to think it was a company with a soul that wanted to give techies a place for discussion. Nah, they're just a business looking to turn a profit every month. It's not easy for someone to say this after being a member since 2006. . .
  11. For the screen: What kind of tasks will you being doing with the notebook? You won't see any tangible gains with a hexcore if all you're going to be doing is gaming. I'm not sure if memory serves correctly, but, I think the x7200 GPU's are barely upgradable. I think Clevo had two different versions of their cards (485m) with one of the versions having a 'special vBIOS' for the X7200. I'd definitely research into that before making your purchase.
  12. @mw86 Thanks for the story and welcome Marc! In the short time I've been here, I've learned a great deal about the beginnings of T|I and honestly, all I can say is: I wish I was here since day 1. @Tech Inferno Fan Hi nando. Nice to see you around here. Unfortunately, your situation is incredibly disgusting. It is part of the reason I have transferred my material to this site. I'll answer your questions to the best of my ability. 1. Short answer: Yes, T|I is impartial. Long answer: See Unclewebb's post in this thread. (It's a really good answer, I laughed out loud) 2. Of course! Your hard work and dedication deserves a place for discussion, does it not? FYI - you can also link PayPal account info to take donations if you want to. 3. Absolutely zero cooperation. I'm not kidding. When you registered and ticked that little box that says "I agree to all the terms and conditions of this website. . .", you agreed that ANYTHING you post on NBR becomes property of NBR. Believe it or not, in legal terms, those are not YOUR guides. They are the ownership of NBR. Anyone remember a Canadian fellow by the name of Les (Tokar)? Many years back he wrote the "SSD Guide" when the first consumer SSDs were hitting the market. He was pretty damn knowledgeable of his stuff and was respected among the community. Well, he was spontaneously perma-banned without a reason. He was cold-shouldered by the admin team at TechTarget when inquiring about why. He also wanted his guide to be taken down, which had 1 mil+ views and endless clicks. No dice, they didn't comply. 4. Can't help you there buddy, that's not my area of expertise. 1. $$ talks, Lenovo and Dell advertise heavily on NBR. Why do you think everytime there's a thread with a complaint from either manufacturer it gets deleted or closed? 2. Let you loyal user base know, bring them over here. It's not like most of the material at NBR is even original. It's all just a hash of reposts by 16-year old kids. 3. Not my expertise, sorry again. ZaZ is probably the oldest active member of that site and longest mod (maybe Charles has got him beat), but either way, I'm surprised to see such short temper on his part for a known member. It does seem like they are preventing you from voicing a dissenting opinion, which goes against the ideology of a "forum discussion". @Mr. Fox If you are going to get involved, please do it via PM.
  13. Hi Frisianbear, BIOS password, means exactly that; It's a password required to enter the BIOS. If you put the password in correctly, it takes you into the BIOS just like normally. But if you answer it a certain amount of times wrong, then your notebook won't boot past POST (The notebook locks you out of Windows) and you will have to reset the CMOS. Typically, I try to get BIOS files off manufacturer's websites. In MSI's case though, they don't publicly update their whitebook BIOS, so my next option is to have someone with the notebook extract their current BIOS and upload it. Problem is though, if they set a password on the BIOS, then the password is extracted with the BIOS which can be a problem. You can use universal BIOS backup tool to extract the CURRENT BIOS you are using. Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0.zip For anyone who is requesting a BIOS, please follow these directions: Make sure all BIOS passwords have been cleared and that all settings within the BIOS are at their default states (i.e. nothing has been altered, even the boot order, etc). In Universal BIOS Backup, hit 'Read' and after that is done, hit 'Backup'. Zip up the file and send it over my way.
  14. Nebbors, I think you'll be happy to know that MSI has implemented a pretty good cooling system. I have done the mod as well, see the attachment below, and I have found that the results of the cooling mod were statistically insignificant; i.e., no conclusion could be drawn between the mod and having any effect on cooling. If that doesn't make much sense to you, basically in certain environments I've seen my temps drop by 2*C but other times go up by 1*C. In the end, it made a negligible difference. I have also tested this with a NZXT Cyro LX cooler with the fans pointing towards the bottom of the notebook and it made no real difference as well. The reason for this is because of the cooling system. Unlike conventional notebooks, these MSI G-Series notebooks draw air from the top of the keyboard rather than from the bottom. Notice the lack of a intake vent for the fan. There's only two that blow out. The slits in other places are to give breathing room to the other components. With and without the mod, my SSD and HDD never exceeded 40*C and my RAM never exceeded 45*C. My 2 cents: If you wanna have some fun and tinker around, do the mod. If you don't want to risk anything, then don't bother. You're not missing out on anything anyways.
  15. No offense, but NOTHING tops mine. I spent weeks, even months settings everything up to make it look as perfect as it does right now. My desktop brings all the boys to the yard. 2nd one is blank because of dual monitors. Anyways, you do have an awesome looking desktop there.
  16. Just like to make a dedicated post about this. I am currently seeking alpha/beta testers for any of the Intel 3rd gen 'Ivy Bridge' MSI G notebooks. If you are interested in giving a hand, please PM me and I'll see what I can do. I have a couple ROMs sitting ready, but no one to test . Edit: @svl7 has also made an announcement for the forum to get the word out as well.
  17. Just read an interesting article over at Anandtech: AnandTech - AMD Apparently, Jarred Walton has been in direct contact with AMD about the issues with Enduro and the Clevo 7970M under-performing. Also, in the comments he's thrown around some numbers: A couple points of interest about Enduro 5.5: -Redesigned UI with more power options -Universal reference drivers I'm excited about the reference driver support the most. Finally, you can go to amd.com and get those damn drivers! Latest word on a release with 12.7 or 12.8 drivers. The beta drivers exist so there is still hope. I had a HP dv6tqe with 6770m and AMD's BACON was a piece of shit. I hope AMD can get their act together.
  18. If someone uploads me the 16F3 BIOS without a password I will unlock it for you. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ MS-1762 w/ XMP stuff, Vt-d, etc is finished. Need testers for the MS-1762 barebone. Send me a PM if you are interested. If this is confirmed working, then I will work on GT60 and GT70 notebooks. Also, 3rd-gen MSI-G with XM CPU can OC via multipliers! Another point: any GE60 / GE70 people interested? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ FYI -- Thanks guys, appreciate all the good words you put in. Just as a reminder for next time, if you like my work just hit the 'Thanks button' on the bottom left of the post. Most of these 'thanks posts' will be deleted as it makes finding relevant information about troubleshooting and discussing the BIOS more difficult. Some of you are using it to bump your post counts so that you can reach five posts faster. Warning: this will not be tolerated. Your posts will be deleted and you will be handed an infraction. P.S.: You also don't have to tell me when you are going to flash the BIOS. Tell me when you do it, I love feedback. You don't have to tell me you're about to do it; that's completely unnecessary. Those posts will be cleaned up as well, especially if you are below the 5 post count. Senior members/Elite members don't worry. This is mostly for the newcomers. Thanks.
  19. Sorry guys, just got internet back. I'll have some free time this weekend.

    MSI GT780DX vbios

Yes Svet's will work for Fermi mobile cards.
  21. Thanks for clearing that up! Unfortunately, I won't have internet until next Wednesday....lazy Comcast workers... Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
  22. Hi John, I'm not too keen on virtualization, but I only see VT-d option in the BIOS. I can't find VT-x. Will that be a problem? Also, it is under the 'Chipset' tab that is not unlocked yet (explained in my previous posts above). Be on the look-out for a new BIOS later this week that will be completely unlocked.
  23. Refer to the last quote: http://forum.techinferno.com/msi/1839-msi-g-series-unlocked-bios-3.html#post25233
  24. The 16F2 is already EoL, MSI doesn't provide anymore support for it. Like I said before, OC'ing issues are not MSI's fault. Intel put a bitlocker on Sandy Bridge chips and only XTU can OC them. Caveat, only notebooks with XTU embedded in the BIOS (Alienwares, some Clevos) can take advantage of it. As you can see, I raised my multiplier limits to 40x, via BIOS. I then set TS to force multipliers at 35x. The result? Stays at 31x regardless. The BCLK is your only option, and that'll add a measly 100mhz.
