  1. Yeah I have the same issue with my 960 but I really don't want to give up my internal display until I get a 3rd monitor
  2. Hello, try installing windows 8.1 /10 with UEFI (in bios enable UEFI without CSM) Don't try to use setup 1.3x with UEFI With this method, the kepler based Nvidia (gtx 770,780,680,670) should work with no problem without dsdt override. Other cards like nvidia 9xx (maxwell based) and 750Ti require windows based DSDT override, see https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/1982-125-hp-elitebook-2570p-owners-lounge/&page=14#comment-66892 Hey, I no-longer have this setup. I never had cooling issues with my 8470 with a quad core
  3. Looks like the GTX 970 requires some different memory address space to the 770, not working under win 8.1 UEFI or windows 7 BIOS mode <strike>And it seems that my Setup 1.x link has expired, can Nando send me a new link so I can get this card working? I can provide proof of Donation if you need via PM @Nando</strike> <--- supplied
  4. Yep, that 170w (hopefully) gtx 970 cant come soon enough for me. I just sold my 770. Ill post benchmarks when I get the new card ALSO, there is a reasonable difference between reference and non reference GTX 770s, with non reference cards generally consuming more (with their higher clocks, higher power limits, beefier cooling and VRMs they will boost higher than reference cards
  5. Hmm, Maybe Ill wait for a more power efficient card comes around. I don't like the sound of throttling
  6. Regarding the EXP Enclosure, I see that it says 29cm long, now my gpu is around 29cm +- 0.5cm (it's a 770 ref) Correction, its only 26cm My hope is to cram my 770 into is. Has anybody tried this? I am desperate for a smaller enclosure than my current shuttle pc case. I understand that the DA-2 probably isn't powerful enough for my card but I think I can get that under control with undervolting and reducing the power limit, otherwise I will swap it for a 680 or 970 Anyone have any ideas? Has anyone else purchased the Enclosure?? - - - Updated - - - I was having major issues with MW2 FPS was very choppy at any graphics setting, at all low I was getting better performance with my HD4000. I would assume this is something weird with their renderer or whatever
  7. Hi guys, not sure if i'm missing something, but do we have benchmark results comparing DX11 ExpressCard vs TB1 10Gbps? Potentially have the opportunity to swap out my Elitebook for a late 2011 mbp
  8. Here's hoping the yet-to-be-released zbook 14 g2 has thunderbolt and a quad core option. I didn't see a quad core zbook 14 so chances are slim. One can hope right? Sadly the performance of a dualcore haswell chip leaves much to be desired Otherwise looking forward to seeing some second hand zbook 15 g1 on eBay for < $1k
  9. If you are wanting a way to put more compute / graphics cards in a Workstation PC, an External setup may be able to help, you could purchase say a Dual xeon workstation which comes with thunderbolt, then on this you could add more cards. But remember that even workstations don't have unlimited PCI-E bandwidth, this could be a limitation for you. You could also just install two dual-gpu graphics cards like the Titan-Z
  10. I would still buy from BPlus even at the price premium, correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me like bplus did all the research and testing on these devices and cooperated with us users and then EXP GDC came in and with a better and cheaper manufacturer. I know it's not exactly rocket science to build these devices but everyone needs to remember that there are costs associated with all the testing and correspondence they have done. Sadly, most economies don't operate on good feelings and the cheaper product with the same features will prevail. In my hopeful opinion BPlus need to somehow get through Intel's lisencing and get a thunderbolt 2 kit and they will again have dominance in this niche market. Will edit for grammar later. - - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - - You should wait for maxwell if you can be bothered. The maxwell cards will offer lower power consumption ad lower heat output. If these factors are not a concern for you, you should probably just get a 760, they are pretty much at the top end of the scale for egpu price / performance.
  11. I'm just guessing but I think the hotplug-ability is to do with the fact that it's now using EFI and the GPT/MBR doesn't make a difference. (But of course can't fully use EFI with MBR)
  12. I'm trying a GPT UEFI installation now IT WORKED!! I created a uefi compatible windows 8 installer flash drive Went into my HP bios and set EFI mode without csm (native mode) Boot into the win installer and delete all existing partitions on my drive and let windows deal with it. Now I can come home from uni and hotplug my GPU without having to reboot
  13. Here is my Super simple setupConsisting of a HP 8470p, EVGA 770SC, PE4l, cheapo junk psu, fan and fan controller. The case is a Shuttle XPC variant which I stripped down to fit the ATX psu and PE4l in, the 770 was a perfect fit (after removing some rivets )Display is a Dell U2713HM 2560x1440 which I picked up for $310 NZDTemps are great, hovering around 70deg overclocked (+50 core, +300 mem, +.12 vCore) while playing BF4I recently added the fan due to fears that I was suffocating the cheap PSU since it draws air from the back of the card.Setup on the 8470p is great, apart from the fact that you have to wait till after POST to plug the Egpu in( or set the delay). I believe this effects 8470p and 2570pIn Win 7 I was able to plug and play W/O setup 1.x but I purchased it anyway,I moved to windows 8.1 and had to use 1.x to overcome memory allocation errors.I am currently gaming at 2560x1440, getting around 60fps +- good/bad situations online with all medium settings but AA off (don't need so much at higher res)I made up some benchmarks if people are interested. These results don't reflect gameplay performance. Games are very playable at 1440I will take requests for more benchmarks 1280x800 1920x1080 2560x1440 4k anyone?
