  1. hey guys.. do you think that with optimus or something similar it will be possible to use the internal screen with those new tb3 egpu solutions from intel ? and if so.. would it be on par with an external monitor ? unlike ur DIY solution where egpu with internal screen is just so much worse..
  2. UPDATE: ok after some more testing i am 100% sure the problem is the internal display! all of the games i mentioned (WoW, SwtoR, CS GO) run absolutely smooth on an external display.. i can even run wow and swtor (both ultra) at the same time with minor fps problems.. as soon as i switch to the internal display the fps drop alot.. from 200+fps in cs go while standing around to 50fps max.. not one of the mentioned games run on ultra.. as it stands.. it doesnt seem to be viable to use a egpu solution as a replacment for a gaming laptop if you want to use the internal display 99% of the time.. i wasnt expectating such a drastic loss in fps when i use the internal display @jacobsson yeah i think for me its a better solution to get a gaming laptop.. there is just no way for me to carry around a monitor the next few months as i will travel alot... just ordered this one XMG P503 PRO Gaming Notebook 39,6cm (15.6") . 39,6cm (15.6") Full-HD (1920*1080) Non-Glare . AMD Radeon HD 8970M 4096MB GDDR5 . Intel Core i7-4700MQ - 2,40 - 3,40GHz 6MB 47W . 8GB (2x4096) SO-DIMM DDR3 RAM 1600MHz Crucial i guess this one will give me a much much better performance then my current N532 + gtx 760.. even though i would have preffered the egpu solution :/ btw has anybody tried to get a refund for their PE4L ? or does anybody want to buy one ? (cable length is 150cm)
  3. heyhey.. yeah but i was planning to use the internal screen anyway later on.. its either egpu or gaming laptop as i wont be able to carry around a monitor or desktop pc in the next months.. but these results arent good at all :/.. i guess i am better off with a gaming laptop then? i am pretty sure a good mobile gpu can handle WoW / Swtor / CS GO on ultra.. in theory the egpu solution should be much better then a mobile gpu..
  4. okay im done with the benchmarks.. which seem to be fine all benchmarks are internal screen!! 3dmark06 : 18534 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor,FUJITSU FJNBB2F 3dmark11 : 6582 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor,FUJITSU FJNBB2F Icestorm : 12285 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor,FUJITSU FJNBB2F however the actual game performance is not what i was expecting..i used the gtx760 in my desktop pc with a similar clocked cpu and could run wow (ultra) + swtor (ultra) at the same time.. now i cant even play one of them on ultra without fps drops.. even cs go doesnt run smooth on ultra.. of course i was expecting less fps especially as i am playing on internal screen.. however it seems more like a 50% performance loss then 20-30%.. any ideas what could be the cause ? or is it just like this and my expectations were too high?
  5. - delete the last post please.. seems like everything is running fine.. when i am sure i will upload a guide and benchmarks thanks again for the help
  6. UPDATE: ok guys its looking much better already.. with SW Switch on 2 or 3 i can get my N532 to recognise the gtx760.. however there are 2 problems left.. 1. as soon as i plug in the EC in windows(dgpu disabled).. my gtx760 gets recognised and win switches to it.. however my network adapters stop working / have problems.. 2. the card runs in 1.1 mode.. to fix this i tried to do a compaction.. but when i do a full compaction i get stuck in "back to enter menu".. when i do a compaction "ALL except SOUND, USB......" i get stuck in black screen after chainloading either mbr1 ,2 or bootmanager.. when i try to "show state" of Nvidia gpu´s in Setup 1.3x it says: NOTE : Unconfigured display adapter found, device not accessible: GK1xx NVidia display adapters present in system: <0> Geforce GT 620M and here is my status screen with deactivated dgpu: retraining ports to 2gen or 2x speed didnt change the fact that the egpu is running @1.1 either.. any help or tips greatly appreciated!
  7. hey guys.. thanks for the replies.. my gtx 760 seems to be fried.. but the support was very nice and they said i will get a replacement.. and yeah i played dumb i will get a new gpu tommorow.. now i tried to check if the TOLUD is enough on my fujitsu N532.. i did a "all" compaction in 1.3x Setup.. but i then am stuck at Press ENTER to return to menu... "[statwin] Gathering system details to create Status Window"... any idea whats wrong there? i am using Setup 1.3x on a USB Stick as i couldnt get it to work otherwise.. thanks
  8. thanks for the reply! no i havent tried that yet.. however right now i have no gpu to do this.. my gtx 760 doesnt work anymore.. not even in my desktop pc.. any idea how i can make it work again?
  9. heyhey guys.. today i recieved my PE4L 2.1b.. 1. i connected it to the PSU with the floppy cable.. 2. then i connected the "mainboard card" to the PSU.. 3. then i connected my gtx 760 to the PE4L 2.1b 4. i conneced the GPU to the correct PSU cables 4. i used the switch on one of the boards to power up.. gpu is running fine, a green LED lights up 5. i plug in the expresscard.. but i doesnt get recognised (got a dell vostro 5630 and a fujitsu n532 here, neither detects the gpu).. on the PE4L a red LED lights up. 6. i tried all variations of Laptop off EC card plugged in power up.. Hotplugging the EC while windows runs etc. i then plugged in an old laptop PSU to the PE4L in the AC Adapter, i switch on the PSU and my GPU Fans start to spin 100% (much faster then before).. i immeadetly unplug everything and now my GPU always runs the fans 100% and doesnt work anymore.. when i plug it in my desktop and to my monitor it doesnt give any signal.. the fans run 100% even when not connected to the PSU.. just plugging it to the PCIe slot.. seems broken :/ i hope this didnt void my warranty.. however.. i think that my GPU is "broken" now was my own fault because of plugging in a laptop PSU but why didnt it work before? what does the red LED mean ? what else could be the cause?
  10. thanks for the reply! very happy to hear that i can use a long cable the hp you suggested looks good but i forgot to mention that i need a 14-15 inch laptop.. anything smaller is going to be too small as i will mainly use the internal display! i read about the performance loss with the internal display.. but sadly there is no way for me to carry a monitor around with me and its still much better then normal gaming laptops. after some more research i nailed it down to t or w530 (a german poster had great success with this one) t or w540 (only thing holding me back is no egpu threads about them) dell 6520 dell 6540 (same as above) i really want an haswell cpu.. but this setup will be bought 100% with egpu in mind... and if for some reason egpu wont be possible its going to be alot of wasted money :/ any suggestions between the both laptops mentioned above? EDIT: 6520/6530 is hard to come by and the 6540 version with EC slot isnt avalable and most likely wont be.. so thath means most likely i will get the t or w540.. any comments / opinions on thos or other haswell laptops appreciated!
  11. heyhey.. after reading all the guides, stickies and the f.a.q i am almost certain that i am going to replace my desktop pc with a laptop egpu setup! but some questions are left... 1. I would prefer a simple starter setup.. one that doesnt require any bios modification.. is there any haswell\ivy bridge laptop that works really good? or a brand in general which performs well except apple? I like the t or w530 but it seems like "egpu setup" is required.. mbp is not an option.. 2. I absolutely need a minimum cable length of 150cm.. i read in a english forum that it doesnt matter.. in a german forum somebody reported performance loss between 60cm and 100cm. does anybody run a egpu setup with 150+ cm cable length with good benchmarks? (i will only use the internal laptop display) help is greatly appreciated!
