Both cards are really good cards and will do you justice in games. But in my personal opinion i would opt for the AC card since it does hold newer tech. With it you should get better signal from AC router due to the beam focusing. Once again it would be a preference since what would now bottle neck your internet speed would be your network instead of that horrible 2230 wifi.

I believe that it would be on the same chip. When i changed my to my intel 7260ac i had to install new drivers so i will assume that they are on the same chip.

Has anyone been able to get 3 screens working at once. With the vga+ Hdmi + internal. I'm pretty sure that the Nvidia 650M Should be able to handle the load... The help would be appreciated =D - - - Updated - - - I have been Debating on buying a usb 3.0 dock/replicator to emulate the process, but i hear it mostly CPU based doesn't load the GPU that much.

In regards with the i'm pretty sure that the y500 and y510p dimensions are the same, but between y400 and y500, the y500 will be slightly larger. So i doubt they will have a good fit. it might be possible to take the face plate off and use that on a difference aftermarket caddy.

In a previous post, I posted that ebay has something for the y400, and i believe the ultrabay for the y400 and y410p are going to be the same. ---------> Here <---------- Sadly they dont have it for the y500/y510p

So i personally thought that the upgrade-ability of the MBP line ended with the 2012 MBP (non retina) but after doing some research i found that you are able to upgrade the Solid State drive on the Late 2012 early 2013 Macbook Pro with retina display. Unfortunately on the newer (late 2013) the SSD is literally part of the motherboard along with the RAM, there is really no upgrading there. So if you have the Previous generation retina you are in luck. As of right now the only place where you can get the SSD would be from OWC ------> HERE <-------- Depending on whether you have the 13in, 15in. Here are the videos that were provided from OWC. Hello! If you have a macbook pro before the retina displays came around you are able to do some interesting upgrades with them. Personally one of the biggest difference for a performance upgrade (on a day to day basis) is a SSD upgrade. Most of your tasks are going memory dependent (as in accessing your hard drive not RAM) so having a slow 5400rpm Harddrive is going to slow down your machine, Changing that to a Sold State really boosts the speed of your rig, from Booting to loading programs and such. So upgrade that SSD now to the HDD Caddy, One of the neat things about having the optical bay available in a laptop is that you are able to take them out and replace them with a HDD. In this case you will need a caddy that is able to mount on to the body of the Macbook pro. Gotta agree with you. For personal use i dont see to much of a problem, web browsing and such, but on a larger scale working with confused lemmings is not something to look forward to. I still have to say windows 7 was the most stable and is still the norm in most cases.

Tis' True, but you can always bring it down to a lower res. In my opinion i think that the slimmer profile is something to look forward to. I wonder when they are going to come out with 4k Movies... =] that would be pretty awesome for this laptop. the underbelly base feature sounds pretty awesome too! =D

So far i dont mind windows 8..or rather 8.1. in 8.1 they got the startmenu back which was pretty nice. =] Also to make things look a bit more nerdy i add a few skins with Rainmeter. You should check it out it has soon CPU temps and other things. You can add some GPU graphs, clock speeds, and temp using Afterburner.

I say go for the intel 7260ac wireless card. =] getting the AC is better Future proofing. I am using it currently and it is working like a charm. I was able to connect my PS3 Controller to it too, though it was a little difficult. It has great ranged and when benchmarked with the previous card inside you will notice huge different in speeds (depending on your internet speed and router) For me i was able to obtain almost an 75% increase on my university network.

Go with the samsung. I did the upgrade on mine and the loading is extremely fast! you will love it. They also have the evo pro, which is suppose to increase the battery life, also has a quicker reading and writing speeds

lol old post... anyways i found a y400 caddy from a seller in China and found it to be a prefect fit, not plate lifting. 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y400N Y410N Y410P with Bezel | eBay Easy to follow directions. Try it out =] I replaced my internal drive with and SSD and put in the stock internal HDD into the caddy. The cons of this is that it drains a little more power and also adds some weight to the laptop.

So i just finished doing the first rounds of upgrades on my y400, and now i am wondering if there is anything i can do about this low resolution screen. Has anyone had some experience upgrading the screen. I know it might not be much but minimum i was thinking of upgrading the y400 with the 1600x900 screen from the lenovo y410p, but i do wanna aim higher and get something with 1080p. I saw the Alienware 14 R1 screen is 1080p and was wondering if they could potentially be compatible. Anyone have any in puts? p.s. with upgrading i am concerned with voltage settings for the new screen and such, and is there even a whitelist on the screens ? 0_o

Hello! So I have finished adding everything to my Lenovo y400. Parts that i have used : 1. HD Caddy with from Ebay: 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y400N Y410N Y410P with Bezel | eBay, Fits like a charm 2. Intel 7260 AC from amazon 3. Samsung Pro 250 GB SSD. Finished flashing to bios and installed the wireless card.... and the most horrible thing happened. My screw stripped and i couldnt get it out. So i did a little operation and removed the old card by cutting it extremely carefully, found a replacement screw and and everything is tiptop working order. I put the internal stock 1TB into the HDD Caddy and its great for storage just kinda cuts battery life by a few minutes. SSD Works like a charm and it boots within 30 seconds. before it seemed to take minutes before everything was fully loaded. I overclocked using the clocks from Octiceps tyty. just not 24/7. I underclock it when on battery to save that extra little juice. Thanks everyone at Techinferno =]

I kinda wished they the would just have the caddy. It would be nice to replace the internal HD with msata ssd and put the 1tb into the caddy. I'm not sure what lenovo was thinking with this. In regards to the 410p/400 and 510p/500 i believe that have the exact same chasis so the ultra bays should be compatible within the class model. =]

Im not a hardcore Gaming enthusiate, just someone of a casual gamer so my Lenovo y400 is pretty awesome! i use to have a Asus u45jc which was a happy little machine, but gotta say i love my new setup! Lenovo y400 with Asus VG248QE Monitor (using a dvi to hdmi cable to get about 115 Hz) [h=1][/h]

I agree with Xonar, the panel isnt that great, but the 120 Hz is pretty awesome! I do prefer to have a dual settup with one of these along with an IPS panel (for photoshopping and such). On an interesting note For those using a laptop, and was extremely disappointed finding out that you can't reach the 144hZ with the HDMI (due to port issues) on my Lenovo y400 i used a DVI to HDMI cord and through my nvidia setting was able to set it to about 115Hz (manually) I just kinda ignored the "wrong cable" On league of legends i was able to get 115 FPS with vsync on.

Well i dont know if this would apply, but i did purchase a Asus VG248QE and its benefit was the 144 Hz refresh rate, but was only available with the displayport and DVID ports, not the HDMI. I used a DVID port to HDMI cable and got the refresh rates up to 115 with out too many problems, at 120 it started to flash around. but 115Hz isnt too bad. Kinda wished that these had a Displayport =[

From what i've been hearing they may not support the 750m sli on the y400/y410p. But since he archecture of the graphics are the same from the previous generation 650m it would just run as a 650m SLI config =/ Which i guess defeats the purpose of getting the 750m card....

The optimus was disabled through electronics. Simply is completely disabled (physically). =[
