Yes, this is the problem. I tried to put 7970M in Aliewnare 17 as well. The GPU fan can't work automatically. You will need HWinfo to do the Fan contro.

Alienware 17(r5) Bios and GPU Options
naruto_kun replied to DaneGRClose's topic in Alienware M17x / AW 17
I have experimented with putting my 7970M from M15x in Alienware 17. The problem that I found is the GPU fan will not works, you will need HWinfo to get it works (with EC reading disabled, this is the only way, and you only get 3 level of fan control:61:) With maximum fan speed, max temperature is 76 degree, and the card can run with full speed. The biggest problem I found is, 3dmark11 only get P4700++ points which is worst than my M15x (I can get P5400++). Maybe some one can give me some advice or suggestion to make that works so that it can benefit others. I am using 230 watt Flextronic PSU. -
Sorry, just wonder, is Prema is working on the bios to get the GTX 7xx series working on Clevo EM series? Or this project has been stopped?

For R3, the max you can go is i7 and GT540M with 2GB. R3 mainboard is kinda pricy. I don't think is a worth upgrade tho...

You can do it this way. Right click the program "Run with graphic processor" -> High Performance NVidia-Processor

Still having my M11X R3 until now. Great mobility and battery life. Would love to see how R4 will become.

I have an M11x R2. But the motherboard seems like faulty recently. Sourcing to buy R3 motherboard and daughterboard to do some D.I.Y~

Many people think that 11" sub netbook is too small. But I like the size very very much due to the portability. Maybe Dell can revise and come out with M12X if they think 11" is too small.

You can open up the fan case and put some oil inside.
