  1. Hi everyone, i recently came into possession of a non working M17x R1. The previous owner said that it worked but the laptop would not accept a charger. Meaning that plugging the AC adapter did not charge the battery and if you removed the battery and just run the latop on AC power, the laptop would not even power up. Unfortunately when i got the laptop the battery was basically drained so i could not even check whether the laptop would power up. Pulling it apart i noticed that the connector for the ribbon cable going to the power switch had a broken clamp so cable was just sitting in mid air. To cut a long story short, i purchased another motherboard and hinge cover but i still get no signs of life. My question is...what's the minimum amount of hardware i need installed in the laptop to try and troubleshoot why there is no power. For example, can i get away with just the cpu and gpu's installed to see if there is the thing tries to power up ? Do i need the ram and hard drive installed also ? I have another hinge cover on the way but this has the ribbon cable also just to try an eliminate the cable which goes from the motherboard to the power switch. My AC adapter is new so that's definately not the problem. Any help appreciated before i spend more money or just trash it as a bad joke. Laptop specs as follow:- Q9100 ES 5870m xfire 8g 1066 ram 500g HDD
  2. As per the "Sticky" at the top of the M15x page....http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m15x/1731-%5Bguide%5D-m15x-amd-7970m.html The 7970m used was Dell part # 747M2
  3. Got it started finally and discovered that the 240w adapter i'm using is rubbish. Time to source another.
  4. Hi, was doing a fresh format and all was going well. Did a reboot after some software install and laptop proceeded to start windows, then, all lights went out and dead. The only indication i'm getting for signs of life is the Alienhead is blinking when no AC adapter is plugged in and it's running on battery only. Plug the adapter in and the Alienhead stops blinking and goes a solid colour for a few seconds and then nothing. Tried the power drain trick but to no avail. I'm hoping i can get some assistance as to where to start trouble shooting as i don't want to keep buying hardware until i find the problem. Note:- Not sure if my AC adapter had anything to do with this but i noticed that lately when i had it plugged in there would be a problem where the screen would dim and show that it was on battery power , but virtually immediately then screen would brighten up and say AC was connected, and this would go on for quite a while.
  5. Using a Roccat Kone+ , but still like my Logitech Mice.
  6. Agree with the above, and woujld put Bioshock series in there.
  7. I'm using the "old" Enermax TB silence. Work a charm.
  8. I'm interested in this outcome also. Have tried Win 8 on my desktop and wasn't impressed. Perhaps 8.1 may change my mind.
  9. That's good to hear. I've just purchased the same card but putting it under water. Interested in the SLI benches also.
  10. Thanks for that. Looks like another motherboard is the go. Unfortunately i may have to pay a premium off ebay as finding a dead M15x board in Australia is nigh on impossible.
  11. Hi everyone, i've tried searching for this problem on the forums but to no avail. To cut a long story short, i used the resource disk i got with my M15x to re-install all drivers and software when i reformatted. Then to my horror all my lighting disappeared and AlienFX was useless. A bit of googling revealed that the resource disk should not be used to install AlienFX, bit to late for me. Was just wondering whether there is a specific fix for this, or whether i'm up for another motherboard. I've tried a fresh install and used the mosr recent version of AlienFX but still no joy. Any help appreciated.
  12. Hello from Australia, long time lurker and now first time poster. Looking forward to reading and replying to the plethora of information here at the TI community. Regards Andy3008
