Aw m18x R2 Dual 980m SLI upgrade!! | NotebookReview I've only got one 980M right now, but so far so good. Hopefully I'll get the second sometime next month.

What issues have you heard? Only issues I know of is that it won't work with Windows 7, gotta have Windows 8. Other than that, it's working just fine.

Not sure if the new 17 has the same bios options as the R3/R4, but if it does, have you tried to disable the HD4800 and just have the 780M active? I did that on my R3 when I installed my 7970M.

Long time lurker, first time poster here. It appears that I need a few more posts before I can download from the list. I do have a question though. Is it safe to download an OV bios and run on stock clocks? I haven't had the need to overclock my 680Ms yet, but I do like to run some benchmarks. Currently about a 200/400 OC is stable, but I would like to try higher. Would it be ok to flash the OV bios and not have to worry about reflashing back to the stock bios?

Now when you say you cleaned it with an eraser, are you referring to something like a pencil eraser? I would suggest not using something as rough as an eraser as it could cause more damage. It's best to use alcohol and a Q-tip. If you're able to, try to get your hands on a different GPU to see if maybe both your cards are bad.

You may be stuck having to do a clean install. It is time consuming, but I think it's the best way to install the OS on the SSD. I've read people having issues when they clone a drive from an HDD to an SSD.

The R1 is only compatible with the Sandy Bridge CPUs. So you are limited to the 2XXX series chips. I suggest going with a 2920XM or a 2960XM. They are still pretty powerful chips and can be picked up for decent prices now.
