  1. the ultrabay seems like a great but very poorly executed idea. i assumed when i picked my y510p up that there would be swap out options available from lenovo as i opted for the sli rather than an optical drive its frustrating shell out good money on a decent laptop with a low end wifi card and a lack of options for the ultrabay and a locked bios. those things are almost a deal breaker for me. next time i upgrade to a new laptop i will definitely look into other options
  2. an issue i found with hdmi sound could be your audio drivers, i had an older usb gaming headset that messed up all my sound drivers when i installed it. thus i had to go through the effort of uninstalling all my drivers for the usb set and sound drivers and then reloading the sound drivers. though upon attempting to reinstall the usb headset everything worked fine, it could be an issue like this for you, or it could be the actual hdmi port. though at this point i'd try uninstalling all of my video/sound drivers and then test it again maybe try on a different tv if it still doesn't work i'd say maybe send it for repair. alternatively you could try older drivers as well. i recall having to do that for some reason or another with an old video card i had
  3. i agree with the people recommending logitec mice, i've had a few of them and they are fairly durable and comfortable in my hand though currently i'm using a fierce gaming mouse i got from a refurbished electronics store, it runs on 2 aaa batteries. i picked it up as it was cheap and i figured it couldn't be all that bad. with cheap re-chargeable batteries it's been fairly reliable so far. the next one i pick up when i inevitably break this one will most certainly be something from logitec
  4. glossy looks nice when its dark, however the glare i find to be generally an annoyance. and i'd rather stick with a matte screen it might not look as nice but at i'd rather that than have to deal with pretty much constant glare
  5. check all your drivers and settings. also check volumes for whatever programs you are using. sometimes videos ect have a lower volume, if its a universal problem with all apps/games ect then i'd assume its a hardware issue. assuming the drivers and settings are all normal. i know that mine has a pretty good volume compared to my aspire and asus ultrabook. as well as my wife's toshiba satillite. considering the problems i've seen people with in this forum with this model i wouldn't rule out faulty parts
  6. almost certainly a loose connection, i had a similar problem with a backlight on my laptop display it would go out unless i pressed on it a certain way, i'd check the connections and try to repair or replace the part in question
  7. for a while i used a messenger bag, then i switched to a nice leather laptop case but i found it didn't have enough room for a charger and any extras i wanted to bring with me. now i use a swiss backpack with a laptop pouch inside it fits all my stuff comfortably and it has room for anything else i need and if i'm worried about bumps and dings along the way i can always toss a few t-shirts in there for extra padding.
  8. if you're going to be using the card for a while i'd go with the 7260 since it supports ac, though if you don't think you'll have it a long while then go with whichever is cheaper since they'll likely perform about the same. i just ordered a 7260 myself. as i intend on using it for quite some time
  9. not really just make a backup and follow the instructions and everything should go fine and if it doesn't just reload the backup and try again. trial and error i find is the best way to learn
  10. previously i had a nice logitec cooling pad with built in speakers, alas i left it when i moved. though i find most of the problems are simply caused by a lack of air flow under the pc from having it on my lap or on a couch/bed. instead of going out for a new pad i just took an old shelf from a desk that is the same aprox size as the notebook and use that. its not an optimal solution but for the short term it works well
  11. i've previously owned 2 acers. the first one was a refurbished and it had some problems. but when i purchased a new aspire it was a great machine. though due to some unfortunate accidents i had to replace it. was sad to see it go
