  1. Yes, 7260ac works so much better than n2230. Very easy install, make sure u download the drivers from Intel prior to install though cuz windows don't have it integrated into its default driver set. U won't have internet or Bluetooth unless u install drivers manually - - - Updated - - - look at pages 140+ I asked a similar question three months ago
  2. I thought the vbios mod that works with win8.1 is not out yet. I flashed it with the official update one from Lenovo last month.
  3. thanks, I think I see what you mean now. Is there a reason as to why GPU boost is disabled though?
  4. So am I right in assuming that the system/nvidia control panel will alter the card with a slower setting to match the card with the higher setting? What if I overclock the ultrabay 750m to 1058MHz, I do see some room for boost. Does this mean that the main GPU will get boosted to match the speed capable by the ultrabay with boost on? I read the release documentation with the modded bios, it says: " - boost disabled". So I guess this is referring to the GPU? It's not referring to removing the CPU's intel turbo boost capability and making the CPU run at max all the time? Finally, since the main GPU is overclocked, the ultrabay is not, what is the ideal way of overclocking them? Ultrabay can only go up to 135MHz. Thanks
  5. Thanks! I got it to work. I see that you are using SLI as well. I opened up the nvidia inspector and saw that my default graphics card 750M got overclocked to 1058 MHz, while the ultrabay one is @ the default 941 MHz. So do I have to either overclock the ultrabay graphics to the 1058MHz with matching memory speed or downclock my main GPU to match that of the ultrabay's to prevent game stuttering?
  6. Thanks for the response, I'm in the process of flashing the modded bios on my y500. I'm having trouble booting into DOS. I disabled secureboot in bios; however, I still don't see an option to boot into DOS via USB at all. I also tried copying all the files from the win98_files directory into the usb and it still didn't work. Any tips?
  7. I agree, without a price cut, $180 is so expensive for a 750 GB HDD. Could get a much faster SSD and then hook up additional storage in those portable passport harddrives.
  8. lol, without AC the graphics card are clocked @ 100 MHz, which is even worse than Intel HD grahics. I personally use this http://www.amazon.ca/Targus-AWE55US-Chill-Black-Gray/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386036584&sr=8-1&keywords=targus+laptop+pad Pretty cheap and gets the job done, pretty useful when you want to use the laptop on a sofa or other nonconventional places. It definitely doesn't feel icy as other cooling pads though and feels very comfortable. Dell sometimes sell it for super cheap, and all you have to do is price match with brick and mortar stores like bestbuy or futureshop.
  9. I have one quick question, if I were to flash my bios, make a backup. If I decide in the future to reverse the bios to the stock version that I backed up and send my laptop for warranty repairs, would it still qualify?
  10. I have the exact same system 750M SLI, I thought the BIOS is independent of the operating system. in fact I just ordered a intel 7260ac as replacement, should get here any day now.
