The HDD is definately the bottleneck. Swap it out for an SSD and put the HDD in an external case and use it for data. If you get a case that supports USB 3.0 then you shouldn't be concerned with read/write speeeds for everyday use. 5400 RPM is perfect for data as well as audio/video. Other option: Buy an M.2 SSD and pop it in the slot; boot off that and leave the 5400 RPM HDD in for data.

Has anyone had any luck aquiring a Lenovo branded card for an upgrade? I've got a modded BIOS on my y510p but I was considering purchasing one as a gift, but I don't want to void the warranty on this one... Thanks

The Synaptics drivers are an improvement. I put a skin on to texture the trackpad, but results are only marginally better.

Currently installed: Crucial M500 240GB 2.5-inch Internal SSD Crucial M500 240GB SATA 6Gbps 2.5" Internal SSD • 500 MBps Read / 250 MBps Write I dropped the laptop (twice) and no disruptions. Read/Write speeds are as expected. Waiting to get my hands on an NGFF though...

Quick question re the BIOS mods and the SLI on the 510p (running win 8.1): Just making sure I understand the recent posts on this thread: If I mod both the BIOS and the ultrabay card, I should still be able to install the latest GPU drivers, provided they are from Nvidia directly and not Lenovo? Thanks
