I found the answer here: windows 8 - Use touchpad while "typing"? - Super User You can achieve almost the same effect of turning off Palmcheck if you turn off Smartsense. The difference is that if you turn off Smartsense, you can't control the click and mouse areas.

When I use the OEM drivers directly from Synaptics, I cannot find the setting to disable Palmcheck. This is a problem for me now because I need to use keyboard and touchpad at the same time while gaming. Any ideas how to disable Palmcheck and Smartsense at the same time. (Smartsense is the feature that's not available in Lenovo version of the driver, and is essential unless you can tolerate the "wobble" every time you click the trackpad button)
  3. The purpose of the reflow process is more than just "speeding up the process of assembly." Ball Grid Arrays (BGAs) can only be soldered (yes, you're correct that reflowing is a type of soldering) using reflow or localized hot air. It's impossible to hand solder a BGA. With said, the NGFF is not a BGA, but it does have very small features and a row of pins blocked by the other row (please correct me if I'm wrong). If you have had success in the past hand soldering parts with features this small and challenging, then you should, and I hope it works out for you. I just want to share information with others who might be casually reading this forum and think that they'll try this for the first time. If that's the case, you're better off avoiding it and instead spending the money to buy a large SSD (instead of replacing a damaged laptop).
  4. I use PS3 Media Server on my desktop computer to host media files that I play on my PS3. I stream the files wirelessly from my new Netgear AC router, directly to the PS3, which doesn't have AC capability. I periodically get some jittering and skipping during playback if the media file is high def (especially high def audio) - it's very annoying. I'm wondering if anyone has solved this type of problem by setting up an AC router to AC router wireless link, and then plugging their media player (in my case, a PS3) into the second AC router with a bonafide ethernet cable. Thanks in advance for your help.
  5. If you're looking for an hdd/ssd caddy to swap with the SLI, you might like this one: Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p HDD Caddy Also, I thought it was funny that this company was advocating that you remove the bezel from your SLI card and attach it to their product (see the video on that page, towards the end).
  6. Just in case anyone here thinks that they want to solder an NGFF connector to their motherboard...... most modern day integrated circuit parts don't get soldered to a board, they get "re-flowed". This is a process where solder past is applied to the metal pads on the circuit board, the piece parts gets set on top of the solder paste, and then the boards get sent through a precisely controlled thermal oven for a precisely controlled period of time (on a conveyor belt). The solder paste melts and the solder connection is made between the metal pad of the circuit board and the metal lead of the piece part. With that said, even if you are an expert at soldering with an soldering iron, you probably would not be able to solder a connector like this by hand, because half of the solder leads would be blocked from your access because it's not a pin-through-hole connector. The leads come off the side of the part, which is flush with the board. Also, even if you could access the pins, and if you are an expert solderer, the most likely outcome of trying to solder a connector like this by hand is that you either overheat the trace in the board and fry it (release the magic smoke), or you overheat an I/O pin of the chip that connects to the connector (again, releasing the magic smoke). So, if anyone has been brave enough to actually hand solder this piece, or hit it with local hot air, or duck tape it, and it worked. I'd be interested to know. Instead, I think I'll just buy the biggest SSD drive I can afford instead of buying the $2M reflow oven
  7. I bought my Y510P from Newegg last week, opened it up, and it just has a blank solder pads where the ngff connector should be. WTF?! Has anyone complained to Newegg about this? I'm wondering if they've done anything to make it up to their disappointed customers?

If you're having problems using the two-finger scolling (the kind where you slide two fingers across the touchpad in the direction of the page scroll), you could also try configuring the two finger click option (where you click on the center of the touchpad with two fingers) to register as a page down. I've tried, it's not my preference, but it is a viable alternative.
  9. See page 97 and 98 of the hardware maintenance manual, located here: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_y410py510p_hmm.pdf I haven't yet confirmed that these part numbers can actually be found anywhere on the internet, but it's a start! Btw, I've had similar experience talking with Lenovo Sales, they just say that you can't buy a disc drive to add to your SLI system
