    Hi Tech Inferno Fan!

    Good day!

Can you please help me with my problem?

I don't know how many replies can i send so I am going to say all the details in this message.

    Setup:

Msi gp60 laptop UEFI boot(when i enter the bios using DEL key, the external monitor shows up but becomes black when entering windows)

    I7 4700mq

    Gt740m

    Windows 10 64bit

    Exp gdc beast v8(atx:on ptd:off)

Zotac gtx 1050 mini (no 6pin power)

    Seasonic eco 400 atx psu

And here are the steps that I've done so far:

    1. DDU. Reboot.

    2. Install drivers 372.xx(only gt740m was installed, gtx1050 was shown as "basic display adapter"), 375.xx(both gpus were intalled but i get error 43 for gtx1050).

    3. I also tried disabling the dgpu via device manager then repeat steps 1 and 2, but there is still error 43.

I hope you can help me with this..

    Thank you.

See @Arquebusa answer, quoted below. GTX1050's oldest driver is 375.63. We know NVidia drivers return error 43 on drivers newer than 372.70. You may try to do a INF patch, adding GTX1050 support to 372.70?

Yes, I know he is using 372.70, my problem is, 1050 ti has no drivers that could work with mpcie, I was stuck...
At least, I could play games with the old driver, until Nvidia finally fix the problem (hopefully)
And I still could use this card for my desktop, far away at my home when I'm back (I don't know when)

My laptop got optimus too, so it is maybe better I got the card from the green...
I don't know if buying the 9xx is still worth it...

I have just started and trying to get DIY egpu working. I am using GE60 2pf apach pro
currently, i am stuck on position where whenever i try to do any kind of chainload with any option, it will cause 0xc000000e error whenever i try to load windows 10 or 1.30 ,with or without any kind of other modification such as diabling Dgpu.
for my egpu, psu: 700W ModXstream-pro
gpu: gtx 460 as test model (planning to get eVGA FTW 1060 3gb if it works)
my computer specs are listed on my DxDiag screen.
i have followed all the steps that the setup guide provided by using image in administrator mode. I have noticed that I got no PCI BUS so I deleted section with PCI express inside devcon text file.
I have 3 hard drives, 2 ssd and 1 hdd. my windows is installed in DISK 2. all of 3 parts are MBR.
If any more information is needed,  Iwill provide. i simply do not know which infos I need to post. Thanks.

Switch your eGPU to Gen1 for stability.  If you need more pls reply email to the instructions you've been given provided requesting assistance. Anybody else affected with BSOD on startup requested to do the same.

I have a few questions regarding the 1.30...and ...I am a noob atit but I kindly ask someone to have a little patience with me.

I have purchased a 1050ti, and device manager sees it, however....windows refuses to use it, and use its drivers. but displays the eGPU working properly. (more on my stupid predica

    QUESTIONS I have:

1.How do I know if my port for egpu is g2?

    2. even if i activate my eGPU, when i go to video cards list, it only shows my dGPU.

    3. my dGPU when i try to  disable it.....hangs. Or it doesn nothing. Should I get any confirmation it's off? It just says "disabling..." and...does nothing...minutes on end.

4.after all the operations in 1.30....how do I boot to windows with them active?  (it's a really noob question, but it's the first time i hit myself with this problem.Sorry if I am a total n00b at it.

5.should there be a dsdt button in 1.30? it says dsdt=off in 1.30

Sorry to be annoying and/or boring with my questions but, I really could use someone in the know-how to give me a few minutes of his/hertime. I am clueless.

    1. The STATUS window will list say "p1@x1.1 10de:[email protected] (NVidia)" to indicate detecting your eGPU on a mPCIe/EC port. The boldfaced letter indicates if the port is running at Gen1, Gen2 (2nd gen i-core+) or even Gen3 speed (6th gen i-core+)

    2. Work through getting your eGPU detected: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/10811-mpcieec-egpu-troubleshooting-steps/

    3. If you have only a dGPU that's wired to run your internal LCD, then yes, trying to disable it will cause a hang. The dGPU can be disabled if it's secondary in a switchable graphics environment with the iGPU as the primary.

    4. Set Chainloader->mode=MBR, then chainloader->Test Run.

    5. The "dsdt=off" status window item isn't complete so does nothing. To do a DSDT override,  pls work through https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/5874-guide-dsdt-override-to-fix-error-12/

II have tried all available drivers for the 1050ti to no avail. HWinfo lists the expresscard-slot as hotplug-able, but I have very few bios-settings that can help me in any other way. I have only tested different versions of hotplugging as waking from sleep or booting with the egpu running results in a black-screen and error lights flashing, maybe I can get rid of error 43 if I get it to boot with card plugged in?

There are other reasons for error 43. A telltale sign of incorrect initialization is if GPU-Z doesn't report clock info for the GTX1050Ti. See error 43 troubleshooting at https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/10811-mpcieec-egpu-troubleshooting-steps/

I may take the gamble. Worse case is that it fails and I can sell the GPU on eBay haha.

Does the extended internal screen only work on AMD, and have you heard anything about performance?

The window drag method works with NVIDIA or AMD. @LukeHero has a method where an external lcd isn't needed. Instead, he creates a pseudo external lcd with a hdmi-vga adapter, windowed app started on pseudo monitor driven by the egpu and management software used to move it to the internal lcd.

It's something to keep in mind if can't get NVIDIA Optimus working.

Now i tried the 372.70 and this is the result:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/kb/310123#bookmark-39

    Quote

    Code 39

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
    Cause

There are several causes of Code 39 errors:

    • A required device driver is missing.
    • A required binary file is corrupted.
    • There is a problem with the file I/O process.
    • A driver that is referencing an entry point in another binary file is unable to load.
    Recommended resolution

    Uninstall and reinstall the driver

Uninstall the driver from Device Manager, and then scan for new hardware to install the driver again.

    1. In the device's Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall. Follow the instructions.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Open Device Manager, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes. Follow the instructions.

Note You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. However, sometimes, it will open the New Hardware Wizard which may ask for the driver. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor's website.

the Epgu is detected but shows a yellow triangle. I tried to clean with Ddu in normal and safe mode. The drivers of the epgu are installed.

Has anyone a tipp, what the issue can be?

It would help if you click on the eGPU and check the error number. If it's error 12 then can work through https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/10718-2016-macbook-pros-and-egpus/&do=findComment&comment=152894

But, nevertheless I went to the UEFI method, as it's much neater. I've got the EFI shell, and I edited the UEFI variables from the variable list for E6430 as the tutorial. But they don't seem to do anything for me, It's still the same, internal lcd is still not displaying. Maybe it's because the variable list is different for the E6420? How am I supposed to find it for the E6420?

    Hey guys, quick question:

Does anyone of you experience the problem that from time to time when you start Windows on your Macbook the selection menu for "egpu setup 1.20" of windows's boot manager comes up on the external screen connected to the egpu?

whenever this happens, I have to restart until the boot manager appears on the internal screen, quite annoying... @Tech Inferno Fan do you know why this might be happening?

Windows is mucking with the BCD entries. To restore back to the text mode bootmenu, run the following at an admin command prompt:

    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

How did you get your core to work? Can't get mine to work. Still stuck on the Error Code 12.

FIX: Win10 error 12 against the eGPU

    i. Go to Device Manager -> View Devices By Connection. Find your eGPU then disable the PCIe bridges above it one at a time like shown below including the (in this case) Root port #5. . Then re-enable them. The idea is to force reallocation by Windows. This worked on a Zbook 15/17 G2. A variation of this is to uninstall the top level PCI Bridge/Port so as to have Windows re-pnp the system upon reboot.

    PCIEbus.PNG

ii. Someone with the same error 12 issue reported a Windows reinstall helped fix the issue, though removing the top-level PCI bridge in (i) should be pretty much the same thing. LINK

iii. Finally, some Macbooks owners have been reporting that a DSDT override fixes their error 12: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/5874-guide-dsdt-override-to-fix-error-12/ . Do (i) again after doing this if still error see 12.

iv. Enable VGA Output on the PCIe bridge hosting the Macbook TB3 controller using rEFIt or rEFInd as explained at https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/1843-2012-15-rmbp-gt650m-gtx560ti8gbps-tb1-th05-win81-shelltoe/

I did manage to get this to work.  No luck on using eGPU to run anything on internal display only so far.  I can start a game on external display and drag in windowed mode to internal display but really not the use case I was intending.

Enabling Optimus  - accelerated internal LCD mode

The 2016 15" MBP has HD530 (iGPU) + RX450M/RX455M (dGPU). The problem when booting Windows is the UEFI/gmux sets the dGPU to drive the internal LCD.

How to fix this?  Follow the 2013-2014 GT750M 15" MBP guide: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/9402-working-dgpu-macbook-internal-display-via-optimusgtx-970-egpu/ to:

    1.  use rEFIt to set apple_set_os.efi to spoof Win boot to match OSX boot where the iGPU is enabled

    2.  use gmux-switch to switch the gmux so the internal LCD is drive by the iGPU

    3. Disable any dGPUs (yes, AMD or NVidia) in Device Manager so the NVidia driver uses the eGPU for Optimus functionality.

  13. It's important that you either hotplug a EC eGPU adapter after BIOS post OR use eGPU adapter delay switches. Doing this will hide the eGPU from the BIOS so it uses the iGPU/internal LCD as the primary display. If the BIOS sees the eGPU then it will use it's display as primary.

It's also possible on a E6430 to use UEFI variables to set iGFX/iGPU as the primary display alleviating this hotplugging/delay method. Something that may translate to the one-gen older E6420:  https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7574-14-dell-latitude-e6430-performance-upgrades-and-system-mods/

OK, I figured that was the case. A 1060 should be fine? Forgive my lack of graphics card knowledge, it's my PC weak point. If I understand correctly any xx60 card should be fine? The 1060 seems a good option as it's TDP is low enough to work with the Dell adapter and it is readily available.

Edit: I just reread what you said. A 1060 would also need that done. So another question to add on. Other than the trouble of doing the DSDT override, is there any drawback?

If the DSDT override is performed as an in-memory substitution via Setup 1.30, then there are no drawbacks. It can also be very easily editted/removed in case it causes a BSOD on bootup.

If TESTSIGNING is enabled to allow a registry DSDT override, then it can affect Windows operation. TESTSIGNING would need to be disabled via a Safe Boot to disable the DSDT override if it caused a BSOD.

When I had my 2570P I didn't get a BSOD due to the DSDT override, Though I stopped updating the BIOS. I did see some BIOS updates change the ACPI table addresses which could cause the DSDT table to BSOD.

    Hello everyone hopefully I'll find some answers for my questions here, is good to see plenty of DYI people around here, first my system specs below;

    Dell E6420 / i7 2720QM / 8GB Ram / Intel HD 3000

    Windows 7 x64

    EGPU EXP GDC v8.3b w/ GTX 960

    Express card connector

I tried this setup on a Lenovo x220 works perfectly fine on Gen1 mode, but is unstable in Gen2 (random BSOD)

On the Dell works perfectly fine on Gen1, can't change to Gen2 (no option in BIOS)

Is it possible to activate Gen2 with Nando's software on the Dell?

    If so, is it stable?

Is EXP GDC compatible with Gen2 at all? or is just a combo lucky (GPU+EXP)

I tried connecting it on the mPCI-e connector, but I get it to work 1 in 30 times, so is unreliable, also tried the sleep mode trick, but does not work.

Thank you for your attention, all the best.

Yes, Setup 1.30 can downgrade your mPCIe or EC link to Gen1 to gain stability. EXP GDC with it's socketted cable is notorious for being unable to reliably maintain a Gen2 signal. The soldered-cable PE4C 3.0 is better but still there can be factors there too: impedance of video card, EMI from appliances.

Expresscard is the way to go on a E6420 or X220. Much more convenient than mPCIe.

Does anyone know if some of the newer Nvidia cards are plug and play, like the 1050?

AFAIK, GTX650/750/9xx/10xx and AMD cards all require a 256MB+ PCIe aperture. The 2570P BIOS TOLUD setting will not allow those to be allocated into 32-bit space hence require a DSDT override for allocation into 36/64-bit space:  https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/5874-guide-dsdt-override-to-fix-error-12/

@Tech Inferno Fan: I also feel that my system underpeforms given recent benchmarks and gameplay experience. However, my cable is from Akitio and it's exactly 0.5m(1.65ft) long. That's not a long passive cable and thunderbolt 3 cables on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=thunderbolt+3+cable)  that claim to transfer up to 40Gbps are exactly the same length. Doesn't seem that Akitio would provide a low performance cable.

I think something else must factor into this

Ensure you are using the high performance power profile. Can also disable C1E using Throttlestop (try EIST too). The latter being a fix from ~2011 to improve SATA performance. Maybe it helps here too?

@Tech Inferno Fan: My cable comes with Akitio box and it's 50 cm. Here is my CUDA-Z result

The information changes over time. But as I observed, Host to Device Bandwidth stays at 1500+  MiB/s, so it is totally below the  NGFF.M2-32Gbps and not much higher than TB2 -16Gbps (x4 2.0) from your link https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/10581-6th-gen-i-core-has-gen3-8gbps-southbridge-pcie-ports/  . What can you conclude from this?

Your performance is a little less than expected. This may be due to using a long non-active cable. See related discussion starting about here: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/10718-2016-macbook-pros-and-egpus/&do=findComment&comment=151819

  20. @icttrack, thank you for posting your implementation.

Would you mind also doing 3dmark13-FS, 3dmark11 runs (preferrably using an external LCD) and post links to the results?

It would also be useful to have the CUDA-Z bandwidth results along with details of your TB cable length.  Can compare against what you'd expect there at https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/10581-6th-gen-i-core-has-gen3-8gbps-southbridge-pcie-ports/
