  5. 1. The STATUS window will list say "[email protected] 10de:[email protected] (NVidia)" to indicate detecting your eGPU on a mPCIe/EC port. The boldfaced letter indicates if the port is running at Gen1, Gen2 (2nd gen i-core+) or even Gen3 speed (6th gen i-core+) 2. If you have only a dGPU that's wired to run your internal LCD, then yes, trying to disable it will cause a hang. The dGPU can be disabled if it's secondary in a switchable graphics environment with the iGPU as the primary. 4. Set Chainloader->mode=MBR, then chainloader->Test Run. 5.   7. The window drag method works with NVIDIA or AMD. @LukeHero has a method where an external lcd isn't needed.   8. When hotplugging, your psu has to already be on for the egpu to be detected. Refer to following to set your psu to be permanently on.

  14. Windows is mucking with the BCD entries. To restore back to the text mode bootmenu, run the following at an admin command prompt: bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
  15. FIX: Win10 error 12 against the eGPU i. Go to Device Manager -> View Devices By Connection. Find your eGPU then disable the PCIe bridges above it one at a time like shown below including the (in this case) Root port #5. . Then re-enable them. The idea is to force reallocation by Windows. This worked on a Zbook 15/17 G2. A variation of this is to uninstall the top level PCI Bridge/Port so as to have Windows re-pnp the system upon reboot. ii. Someone with the same error 12 issue reported a Windows reinstall helped fix the issue, though removing the top-level PCI bridge in (i) should be pretty much the same thing. LINK iii.   16. Enabling Optimus - accelerated internal LCD mode The 2016 15" MBP has HD530 (iGPU) + RX450M/RX455M (dGPU). The problem when booting Windows is the UEFI/gmux sets the dGPU to drive the internal LCD. How to fix this? Follow the 2013-2014 GT750M 15" MBP guide: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/9402-working-dgpu-macbook-internal-display-via-optimusgtx-970-egpu/ to: 1. use rEFIt to set apple_set_os.efi to spoof Win boot to match OSX boot where the iGPU is enabled 2. use gmux-switch to switch the gmux so the internal LCD is drive by the iGPU 3. Disable any dGPUs (yes, AMD or NVidia) in Device Manager so the NVidia driver uses the eGPU for Optimus functionality.
  17. It's important that you either hotplug a EC eGPU adapter after BIOS post OR use eGPU adapter delay switches. Doing this will hide the eGPU from the BIOS so it uses the iGPU/internal LCD as the primary display. If the BIOS sees the eGPU then it will use it's display as primary. It's also possible on a E6430 to use UEFI variables to set iGFX/iGPU as the primary display alleviating this hotplugging/delay method.   18. If the DSDT override is performed as an in-memory substitution via Setup 1.30, then there are no drawbacks. It can also be very easily editted/removed in case it causes a BSOD on bootup. If TESTSIGNING is enabled to allow a registry DSDT override, then it can affect Windows operation. TESTSIGNING would need to be disabled via a Safe Boot to disable the DSDT override if it caused a BSOD. When I had my 2570P I didn't get a BSOD due to the DSDT override, Though I stopped updating the BIOS. I did see some BIOS updates change the ACPI table addresses which could cause the DSDT table to BSOD.
  19. Yes, Setup 1.30 can downgrade your mPCIe or EC link to Gen1 to gain stability. EXP GDC with it's socketted cable is notorious for being unable to reliably maintain a Gen2 signal. The soldered-cable PE4C 3.0 is better but still there can be factors there too: impedance of video card, EMI from appliances. Expresscard is the way to go on a E6420 or X220. Much more convenient than mPCIe.
  20. AFAIK, GTX650/750/9xx/10xx and AMD cards all require a 256MB+ PCIe aperture.   21. Ensure you are using the high performance power profile. Can also disable C1E using Throttlestop (try EIST too). The latter being a fix from ~2011 to improve SATA performance. Maybe it helps here too?

  24. @icttrack, thank you for posting your implementation. Would you mind also doing 3dmark13-FS, 3dmark11 runs (preferrably using an external LCD) and post links to the results? It would also be useful to have the CUDA-Z bandwidth results along with details of your TB cable length.   25. NVidia cards work on your system via Setup 1.30. RX480 hasn't been tested yet.
