  1. Holy, cow! I totally missed that Function + F6 would disable the trackpad completely. Thank you very much octiceps, I will be using that immediately!
  2. I'm trying to find software that is able to back up all of Windows 8 - stystem and user data I'd prefer opensource - because the price is right (free!) I have tried the latest version of clonezilla and on two different systems it backed up but errored on a partition and on restore it errored on same partition -- Windows ran a recovery and all appears well but I don't like that it errored and unsure how reliable the end result will be I could dd and do a byte-by-byte image but that is time consuming and takes up too much space Have used Genie Timeline and Windows File History but those are for personal data only and desire a recoverable backup Appreciate any assistance and hope to find a software solution that is free
  3. The trackpad is bad and I have dual-booted with Windows 8 and Arch Linux and both have the same issues so I have a hard time believing that it is a driver issue I've read articles about a bios flash that is supposed to fix the issues but there are no bios updates on Lenovo's site I wish that they would have placed the trackpad more to the right, my wrist hits it as hit the space bar and cursor goes flying...it's one thing to use a mouse to avoid the use of the trackpad but i shouldn't have to use an external keyboard so that i don't make contact with the trackpad while using the spacebar
  4. I'm not a fan Windows and have purchased the Y500 thinking that I could put OSX on it and have a hackintosh at 1/3 of the price that Apple charges but I have been unsuccessful with same results that Candylifter mentions above ..Still remaining hopeful, however, as the specs match up with Apple's PowerBooks
  5. Is the drive still in good condition? If the drive still works but cannot boot operating system, you have many options. ..The easiest option is if you have another Mac that you can connect the drive to and simply drag and drop the files that you want to keep (most will be /Users/{your username here} of the drive Another option could be to reinstall the os without formatting the drive so preserve the data that you want to keep while returning desktop/laptop to a working state
