I'm guessing you have the core i5 and do you have 2x 650M in SLI? You could add a second 650m if you don't. That should help with game performance. As far as upgrading the CPU I don't think you can and even if it was possible I don't think it would be the best bang for your buck. You would be better off selling your current laptop and upgrading to something else.

Rapid Storage Technology causing issues on Y500
ccnbihnx replied to radicalatheart's topic in Lenovo
I just installed a 128GB Crucial M4 in my computer with a fresh load of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and RST software installed perfectly. I am not sure if it is faster as I didn't do any speed tests before. I will say that my computer boots in about 10 seconds so somethings working pretty good -
I just got my Y500 in today. I have already put an SSD in it and put windows 7 ultimate on it. I can not stand windows 8... Complete garbage if you ask me. However Windows 8 does have one feature I wish windows 7 had. Hibernating core system files which allows for quicker boot times. With Windows 7 and my 128 GB Crucial M4 SSD it takes around 10 seconds from hitting to the power button to have the desktop up and fully loaded.

I am running a 128 GB Crucial M4 I just installed today. The difference is day and night. From the time I hit the power button it takes around 10 seconds to get in the desktop fully loaded..

Haven't had a chance to unlock the bios so I can only get to 925mhz core clock and 2854mhz memory clock. Any higher on memory and it starts causing issues. I figure once I can up the core clock higher I will have to lower the memory clock to avoid issues. I'll let you know once I get the bios flashed.

I wish I would have read this earlier. I just removed the back of mine less than 2 hours ago before reading this post and broke off the top left plastic tab. Great instructions though!
