I can not seem to disable it, but I changed its priority on the list. It does go away when I have an Ethernet cable plugged in.

So every time I cold boot I have to CTRL/ALT/DELETE because it trys to forever boot PXE (Intel) I took it off bios but doesn't change anything. Any help!

Just been not busy at work to come back to the forums. I am going to try a few things, even take it apart and take a gander at the board (I am comfortable doing this) It isn't a huge deal just a pain in the arse.

So I have a bios modded, (vbios also) y500. 120gb msata, and 256gb ssd. I was thinking of selling. It is a 12gb. What could I get for it, been a desk dweller. Want to go back to desktops.

Not an option, as I work from home, and this is all I have. May just have to take a look at it next weekend.

Ok so this y500 stays on my desk, never moved, use the ports for a mouse, and a external sometimes. Other 2.0 is for my headset for work.

The port next to the hdmi port, will give errors, mouse sometimes will go wanky, so I have to use the other port (works fine) however wont work so well if something is plugged in to the affected port. Wtf could be causing this? Did it rip a cable, is it not grounded properly? Please help there are few ports as is lol.

Well it took all weekend but i took ubuntu 13.10 , loaded it on a old gateway media pc, with a single core 1gb, loaded a NTFS usb external got it mounted with correct permissions, installed webmin, plex, ssh. Albeit it isn't the most beautiful setup, I have all computers/wifi devices communicating with it, seeing it as a samba server, plex streams to all media devices (not tv yet as i have no client for the tv).

What do you all recommend for a solid performing media server/storage? I am intermediate with linux, mostly google educated and self learning. I know hardware good, but I am not sure what would be good?

I am upgrading my network over the next few moths to all /ac standard and gigabit routing, eventually I will move this desktop up to the router area and not on wifi. (if I can get the eth drivers to recognize the device).

Let me know what your media server is running, that way I can gauge what I may move to. I work in the hosting industry so may be able to pull a lowcost dual quad core, with a few 1tb drives in it. Those things are just so damn load even if tucked away.

Yeah well I run DSL, but even on DSL i cant stay connected to work! I use a vpn and voip..... Updated the drives, a bit better. But I just ordered wideband business class cable. I need to upgrade this and the router and wanted to go ac! Thanks guys. Ill report once I get probably in a month or so.

You heard it, this thing sucks, and does drop out and after all this time assumed it was the router. Well I have an unlocked bios, can I use any mSATA wlan for an intel board? I game plus work from home. I don't have wideband but will upgrade to 50mbps business connection when we move.

I'd have to say you're incorrect. The main point is to use a 650m ultrabay in a 750m system, not vise versa, because that would be utterly pointless. 650m ultrabays are in fair supply, while 750m ultrabays dont exist on the market currently, unless you buy it in a Y510 preconfigured with SLI. With this particular driver I linked, you can SLI two cards of equivalent architecture (shaders, memory, etc.), or in other words, cards that use the exact same chip. This is a system limitation, needing the two cards to be on equal footing so that everything is balanced, otherwise it will crash. A 750m and 650m are the same in every respect except core clocks and voltage, as further evidenced by the fact that I just flashed a 650m to a 750m last week, and it works perfectly fine. However, that does not stop the OS from seeing its true device ID, and determining it's still a 650m. Nvidia restricts SLI to working with two cards of the SAME NAME. To get around that, the modified drivers are set to ignore discrepancies in device ID, allowing the otherwise compatible GPUs to work together in sync. The next common misonception is that core clocks must be the same for SLI to work, but that is completely false. I can run two 650m cards in SLI together at different clock speeds and voltages. They will maintain their individual clock speeds while in use, but the overall performance is limited by the slower card. To get around this issue in the case of two different cards, simply overclock the slower one, since they both have the same speed capacity (because, again, they are the exact same chip).

You are 100% correct. I just explained it in layman's terms. It will work if you flash them correctly. However a 650m with a 750m wont work, you would have to flash one or the other.

btw this isn't possible. If you put two cards in the same family 6xx then yes, but the faster card downclocks to the slower one. But you can't cross sli 6xx with 7xx. Unless you flashed the 700 to be a 600 series. Which is foolish.

mSATA for os/programs. Mine boots fast, but i keep games on the platter. I may go to a 512gb SSD though when the money allows.

The y500 is no reasonable "laptop" for gaming, I mean without AC atleast. lol trust me 2 hours. and its deaddddddd.

Use the nvidia flasher, load it on the drive, boot in to usb, and BAM go to the rom and overclock the other pci device.

You can, but the price to performance isn't worth it. (upgrading cpu). However faster low latency ram(and more of it), and a nice mSATA for boot/os, and ssd for storage.

Ive been running it stable with the above config. No issues. Like any overclocking its luck of the draw. I have what I would call great overclockers. Not wondrous but great.

I didnt see any fan settings in there, it is more then likely controlled onboard. And the whole to delicate with your hardware. I mind you that 100c is when it shuts down, THESE chips are not met to run continuously at 90c+. Check out my mod rigs at evga, and the number of times I have overclocked. I assure you those little tiny circuits take a beating when they get anywhere near 100c.

I took my y500 apart, and did not need to reseat or reapply thermal paste, I have ICY DIAMOND and Artic Silver still from my desktop days (refrigerate it stays good). The paste on there was of the correct texture and color and well spread. So I didn't even wasted my time. I am going to add larger rear feet for it to sit. Maybe put a 120mm fan and plop it under or to the side.

Contracts do not simply allow a business to go under. If they contracted for a million ultrabays, they would invest time to make sure that corporation doing the work isnt going to just, fall of the face of the earth. Chances are Customs and proper importation and law compliance stalls. We are in North America (atleast I am)...

Thanks guys svl7, bpendz and bobfig! I haven't done the BIOS or DOS things before, so i don't know i have to boot the USB in to DOS mod (I reread it carefully but i missed this part.). now i have already mod the bios successfully.

Yes you have to boot the mod rom to the vBios for the ultrabay card (as it isnt internal it is an external pci card (technically).

Then BAM you are done. These cards can push quite a bit, but find the sweet spot. Keep temps around 70c at max load, dont overvolt, and optimize the control panel and your games.
