Y500 customization(and other PC's) firger print on the case fix
cody000001 replied to savas's topic in Lenovo
My brother and I have the y510p, and have been contemplating doing something like this as well. I was wondering if anyone has seen a clear film that would work with this, and if not where could I find some awesome films (preferably all from the same place for the sake of simplicity)? -
Windows 8 overall runs slightly better than 7. Sure the Metro style was an issue, but now there are choices such as startisback and start8 that offer not only the old start menu, but also a collection of improvements to it that I had been hoping to see arrive in an update back in w7. As many people have said, I can confirm that start up is faster, and it is also faster in some ui aspects. Also, 8 seems to use less ram than 7 by a little bit, though when you have 4gb or more it really isnt an issue. One thing I would warn against however is that w8 does seem to have more HD accesses than 7, and will randomly lag on slower HDs. After talking with many of my friends on both 7 and 8, the flatter style that encompasses Windows 8 vs. the Full Aero glory of Windows 7 seems to be more down to the individual, though if transparency is a must in the OS then Windows 8 can be modded to include it (with some bugs of course).

This temp is normal and even my y510p with non-SLI is around the same. After taking my laptop apart a few times I realized that unlike my older, cheaper Asus, the laptop tends to cycle the fan on and off every few seconds when the load is light. Out of experience, the i7s that power the y500 and y510p seem to heat up massively, as I have not had the same issue with less powerful cpus despite both being idle during my temp tests.

Lenovo Y410p / Y510p - unlocked BIOS / wlan whitelist mod / vbios mod
cody000001 replied to svl7's topic in Lenovo
New to the forums and relatively new to BIOS mods, can anyone tell me what exactly the unlocked BIOS allows and what the SLI flash is good for? seeing as I have to get five posts before I can download this I figured that I might as well know what I'm getting.
