thanks for the help klem. much appreciated! any chance you could get a voltage mod in there too? as of now i can only change core and memory clock speeds, maybe i did something wrong?

still no modded vBios for the ultra bay in windows 8.1. Hopefully soon! You did everything correctly just the vBios thats compatible with 8.1 and the latest nVidia drivers has not been modded and only the default overclock is available.

svl7 thanks in advance for the work you do. I have your modded BIOS on my y500, 2.04 if I'm not mistaken. Will I need to go back to stock BIOS 2.02 before I flash your not-yet-completed modded BIOS for overclocked SLI to work in Windows 8.1? Thanks for all the help again, much appreciated.

How do I write windows 8 to a bootable device. It came pre installed on my computer so I don't know how to get a legal iso to put on the usb drive

The latest drivers (327.23) don't let you overclock with .bat commands anymore. Unless I'm doing something wrong. I was going to roll back but this driver finally fixed the issue with games crashing when I alt-tab out of them. Now if you want to overclock you will have to modify the BIOS using Svl7's mod.

If you want to lower the temperature by a few degrees, remove the battery and keep it plugged into the wall. There's more room for airflow and the battery sometimes can get quite warm if it's charging.

I imagine there isn't that much difference in power consumption and heat production between the 650m and 750m cards? Aren't they essentially the same thing, just one has a higher base clock speed?

Windows 8 really isn't as bad as people say it is. The only thing that bothers me about it is that the charms screen and settings are different than that of those in the control panel. What I mean is that some settings you can only change in 'windows 8 settings' and the others can only be changed in control panel. It just makes things confusing sometimes. Also booting in safe mode is incredibly difficult in 8. I overclocked my monitor and the graphics drivers crashed. I ended up having to plug in a different monitor just to change my monitor's refresh rate. I'm hoping Windows 8.1 will be a big improvement.

Would there be any major performance gains by using osx instead of windows/Linux?

I had a similar issue. Unfortunately, you will probably have to restore windows to factory settings. Best of luck!
