  1. Firstly, I just want to say that it's great what you did svl7! I am looking for a vBios for my Alienware 18 (the new model) running Nvidia GTX780m SLI. I've never flushed vBios before and just want to make sure I am using the correct vBios. I went to the first page of this thread and downloaded file: Nvidia GTX 780m - 'OC edition' - rev02.zip I just wanted to double check before I go and do something silly. Thanks for your help.
  2. Alienware 18 Buy whatever you can affor right now and then ugprade (CPU, GPU, RAM, Hard Drive). All parts are fully upgradable and at least you get USB 3.0
  3. My wife has a MAC and I'm using Windows 8 and Ubuntu. Her macbook pro is about 3 years now and she's never had to do a system refresh. Over time it got a bit slower but it's mostly because she likes to run out of space on her hard drive I must say that the OS is very stable and she's never had any issues with malware. She's been using it at uni a lot, and there is plenty of infected USB sticks flying around as you probably know - this is usually not a problem for MAC users as there is not that many malware on this OS. Windows on the other hand degrades over time, especially the registry grows so big that it cripples performance. There is also malware issue, but if you're smart, this should not be much of a problem. Steam runs on MAC as well and there is quite a few games available. Not sure what sort of games you're into, but I've been playing Civ with my wife a lot (she on the MAC me on the PC). The only issue I see with Apple is that with their newest laptops, you basically can't upgrade anything: can't upgrade RAM, can't upgrade hard drive, not to even mention, cpu or gpu. Even the battery is glued to the case and detaching it could break sensitive cable beneath it. Macbooks are also very expensive in comparison to Windows Laptops, so if you want bigger bang for your buck, you may choose to actually buy a Windows Laptop. Also the most powerfull GPU in Macbooks is GTX650m I think, which is the same that run in the m14x I think - so no improvement in gaming. Hope this helps
  4. I may be wrong but I'd risk saying that most of the high performance GPU laptops run quite hot and loud. Having said that unless you overclock there is probably no need for any extra cooling, although I must say that my GPU in Asus G51j broke Just recently I got the new Alienware m18, and this laptop is running quite and cool even under load It is gigantic, heavy and the battery life sucks though
  5. These were my exact thoughts after getting an Asus and wanting to upgrade GPU. I had a lousy gtx260m back then and it broke. The lappy was running real hot too. Some time later I discovered that the Alienware Laptops are fully upgradable! How cool is that? Some people are running 680m in Sli and prolly 780m on the first gen
  6. I think I recall some people modding their Power supplies. I think it might have been Mr.Fox. He's got a dual 330W system. Not quite remember if he got his system to take advantage of them though. But the power supply worked
