  1. recomend the plug mod, easier than the PSU mod, and you can for instance replace the PSU without having to do the mod again.
  2. the plug mod is not that bad. Advantage not waiting to long on the CF upgrade. You might have to go used card to do the upgrade. Then again, its also a price thing.
  3. you can go XF too with the 7970M. Add an OC to the 940 and the GPU's and you can pass 15K benching on the GPU's. (you need 330w PSU mod or 330W plug mod btw) I do BF4 on ultra with OC on the 920 and stock GPU's using V-sync at 60 and keeping it there most of the time even on 64 player maps so its not much this thing cant do that other computers do.

    7970m + mantle

My M17R2 does not have enduro. Still i dont get crossfire running with mantle with 14.2. My secondary card just stops running in BF4 when i enable mantle. Needless to say it slows my system down.
  5. Well i had same problem. It turned out it was my CPU that had gotten it memory handling killed. I did go for single 8 Gb module to get my 8 gigs. It did see the RAM in some programs, others not. HWinfo had full RAM. Also some times in CPUZ. Also showed all my memory in benchmark results. Never could see it in BIOS and never in windows system. For me it was the second memory bank making errors, not the first. So it did boot and ran close to normal. I had to swap to new CPU and now it works fully again. Have you been overclocking a bit?
  6. Tried my original CPU 720 QM and now both my 4 gigs show up in BIOS. Its not a 8 gig issue, since windows makes it discover a single 8 gig in task manager (not in BIOS of course) This makes this a CPU issue. Wonder what to do. My CPU is also slightly slower than other 940XM's. The memory problems with my 940 is odd. In cpuinfo it all shows up, but BIOS and windows task manager it only shows one of the sticks. (first slot)
  7. I know my old 2 Gig sticks should work always, and my 4 gig sticks have worked before. MY 4 gigs are corsair. If the problem is CPU not detecting but all programs show its using it, i might not buy another CPU later. I have a 940 XM CPU.
  8. Odd part being that while BIOS almost never detects two RAM's, but mostly CPUID shows all the ram. When CPUID doesnt show correct amount of ram is when i try to start it to soon after windows start. But it does vary between showing it as dual or single channel memory. Mostly dual but not always. It is the same either i use the original 2*2 or my newer 2*4. Will eventually try to swap to the original CPU to see if problem disappears.
  9. Thx a lot. I might get another dell one since last resort solution would be swapping chip after all. Just have to figure out my odd behavior of the laptop first on the RAM. Sometimes CPUID gives me errormessage when starting, when it does it shows 4GB RAM and not much good information. Normally if i start it right after windows is running so it could be that all initialization is not finished. If I restart it its without errormessage. At times when it starts its showing my 8GB ram as single channel. And other times dual channel. In SDP tab in CPUID it always shows as different slot for the two. (would guess that should indicate dual channel) Also trying to bench in T-stop, i have at times a 4-5 second longer test times. (19,5 sec compared to 14.5 sec) Could have MoBo problems, need to find out before spending much more on new 7970M, but now i know what cards to get. Thx a lot. :-) Got to find out what gives on MoBo.. Can try to re-flash the BIOS.
  10. One card runs perfect, true. I makes my Alien usable I have DELL cards. From what ive heard if the card is amongst the newest (original 022) have UEFI VBIOS and will not post on our R2's, hence i cannot re-flash. Will it then be possible to get a VBIOS without UEFI and physically swap the VBIOS chips since there seems to be a shortage of cards before 022 original. And, are there other differences between the 7970M cards from Dell/Clevo/MSI than the VBIOS? (if i can swap the chip and all cards are the same, then it doesnt matter what card i get)
  11. From what ive read there are issues with the HD 7970M original 022 VBIOS for the r2. This escpecially if you are to change VBIOS to OC and OV or UV. Am I right? I really bricked one of my 7970M's. It died mid game freezing the screen, and thats all she wrote. No OC was going on and not much temps. (Hardly got past 62 even in benching) When trying to boot, i either got fans running, DVD spinning and then it stopped, or it comes to windows login and then stop. I did manage to boot to dos and managed to flash VBIOS with new BIOS, and it was possible so some parts of the card works. Card 1 runs perfect when alone, the "dead" card stops always with black screen when alone. Pretty sure its dead for good and cant be fixed or has anyone any ideas? I just cant stop fidling with this thing to make it run i X-fire. Problem beeing access to new cards. Will it start with a 022 DELL 7970M card, only not beeing able to change VBIOS for voltage changes? (OC can probably be done in overdrive) Anyone know why? Are there other differences than the actual VBIOS chip or software on it? Would it be possible to buy a chip from SVL7 and solder it in to the card and get a VBIOS that can be altered? (021 for instance?) That would make buying a card easier. If not i might have to get two cards and could as well try the 8970M.
  12. Now ive got life back in my card. Had to re-flash as secondary card. Phu. Ive seen the odd behavior from the RAM. When starting the computer only 4 Gig is found. Even in CPUZ. But after a litle while when i restart the CPUZ the memory is found and i have 8 Gig.
  13. I have had same speed when i had 2 *4 RAM running ok. I see that any 8Gig chip is not officially good on this system (either alone, combined with another 8 or with a 4), so 8 and 4 would not be either i guess, but at least it seems they are discovered in 3Dmark11. Hopefully it can use it too? Its also odd i get those high frequencies too and still not as great speed on tests as others with lower setup speeds. And i should not be able to run as high multiplier as i set with stock and low OV, but still it runs. If i cant do a secondary card flash (ill at least give it a go) I might have to buy a VBIOS of you, we will check it out in a weeks time. Have a good day. Thx for answers so far.
  14. I just went out and bought a 8 G stick yesterday, and this was with this stick. I do have more memory, it would be the one i had originally 2*4 (or 1*8 and 1*4. Donno if we can use different memory in the banks.) Did one test later yesterday where i had one of each just since i had the time. In 3DMark11 it seems i can see both sticks, but its the only place. Two of the same 2*4 i cant see it in bios. I can only see the chip in bank 0 regardless of which of the two is in slot 0 or 1 or if i only use one of them in slot 0. Will have to wait a week to do more tests. Going away on what will be my only holiday of the year. Also have to do some work on my primary GPU card first. Was so stupid yesterday trying to flash 1,050 VBIOS using atiwinflash on both GPU's, and it went black loading GPU1 after GPU2 did go great. (off course i didnt read the warning first :S ) Hopefully i can either blind flash card 1 or i can swap and load as GPU2. (Hassle since ive done temperature mods making swaps a bigger job. ) If its dead for good, i have to do the walk of shame and get another. (not easy to find another 021 or before)
  15. 2013-09-23.txt 85 and 65. 25X, NO OC in BIOS AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-940 Processor,Alienware Hopefully we have the log here too Never inserted textfiles, only pics before. 2013-09-23.txt
