Be sure that you're doing your repasting correctly. Usually, putting too much paste won't help the temps to go lower. With a right repasting, I managed to get -10° on my 7970m. Check this video : , it should help.

Get a laptop backpack from Case Logic. (example : Case Logic RBP-315 (RBP-315) : achat / vente Sac, sacoche, housse sur ldlc.com) I'm travelling a lot for my work and this backpack is far more confortable than a standard bag.
