Sup klem just got a notification that there was a post in this forum. I can vouch for this guy. Bought a bios off him and it works great over 2 years probably now!

So I have a bios capable of changing memory speed and timing now but I'm uncertain of which option enables it. I can see timings and memory profiles but not change them Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk

Is it an SSD or regular spinning disk? I had this issue only with an SSD in the optical (low power use even compared to DVD i guess). In any case, get intel rapid storage and click the performance tab then DISABLE power management for SATA. You will also want to modify your power plan for "turn off hard disk after" to a value of 0 or NEVER. This should help keep the little bugger online. You might have better luck updating your HDDs / SSDs firmware. It might have something to do with the optical bay power cycling as well. Just trial and error until we know what drive you have.

Keep in mind, I run RAID 0 with two matching Corsair SSDs and if you plan to do the same I would caution you you too flash any new firmware via AHCI mode or on anther machine beforehand. You CANNOT update firmware with most SSDs while in a RAID configuration. I typically install on one drive, get all the latest drivers, then image using Windows 7 image tool (yes that is the name even in Windows 8) but make sure to get the newest IRST install before hand. You can then image that into your RAID array and IRST will retroactively execute any TRIM commands required for the previously written data and also any data going forward. Good luck! You don't even need the driver, just do it via your BIOS (SATA Config to RAID). f10 to save changes, restart, ctrl+i to access the Intel RAID utility. Create your array and then install windows like normal.
