  1. I downloaded a copy of win8 since I didn't have the disk but do have legit win8 key baked into the bios. I made a usb win 8 install drive using the iso and turned the boot in the bios to legacy to get it to boot off the usb. It installed win 8 without any issue whatsoever without asking once for my product key. I checked before and after and there is a place where they show the last couple digits of your product key and it matched from lenovo bloatware stock to the clean win 8 I had installed. I still have the stock bios though. Plan on updating that soon enough.
  2. I'm pretty new to the computer gaming scene and was wondering what proper temps should be. What's the danger zones for CPU and for GPU? Without overclocking, playing a game like Planetside 2 what range should my GPU be? I was monitoring it the other night and it would max at about 83 on the gpu (didn't check cpu, monitored using gpu-z) but I think I had forgotten to enable SLI in the nvidia control panel so that may be why that was so high. Heck, even had it on a Cooler Master Notepal X-Slim Ultra cooling pad. My y500 is a refurb (haven't placed new bios on yet, still stock atm) and want to make sure it's behaving properly. Thanks!
  3. I was all ready to put the new mSata drive into my y500 upon arrival. Read up on how to and what I needed. Then I tried windows 8. Initially I felt lost. It was counter intuitive to me. Slowly over the day it really grew on me. The whole system is a little snappier with it. I've held off on putting the SSD in for a little longer to make sure I like it but I think I do and will keep 8 on it. It helps to have shortcuts to windows 8 too
  4. If I update to the unlocked bios (just got my y500 with 2.02 on it stock) do I have to also push that update to the 2 750M cards or are they ok alone? For now my reason would be to update the NIC card only. thanks for this!
