  1. Well everything finally worked. I just hadn't done the Backup of bios correctly, and I never thought the outcome was a .bin file. I appreciate the help.
  2. So now I found out it was just my flashdrive- so I'm around the last step. It says there's a filename.bin, however, I don't see one in my dir after putting the prr, fpt, and biosmod exes and fparts into the drive. What do I do now? Sorry for being a nub
  3. I did, also, I tried the legacy thing. However I might not have done it correctly so I shall try again. And I guess ill find a different flash drive as well, this one is not so great. Thanks.
  4. Would anyone happen to know what I did wrong when trying to mod the bios? When I try to boot the usb (it is DOS) it stays on the Lenovo screen and doesnt do anything. Any help would be great.
  5. Depends which one is cheaper when I upgrade it. I only recently got the computer, so I have to wait tell I can afford it.
  6. I see. However, I wouldn't go to any wholesale sites...Ebay is already bad enough but still doable. Anything from a wholesale site is cheap, usually unlegit, etc. With such a purchase as a laptop CPU, I would infact spend the extra 50 euros to play it safe unless the seller at Ebay is not a trusted one. You can try to play around the 3632QM by maybe underclocking it a bit and trying to down the voltage somewhat. Since your upgrading from an i5-3210M, and by your posts, I assume you own a Lenevo y500 or y580? I recently got the SLI y500 myself and yet to have unlock the bios and such. If I were you, as I will later upgrade the CPU myself, What I would do is underclock it and down-volt it just a bit to work around the limits. Also make sure you have good airflow and cooling. Once everything works stable, at that point you can try going up the spectrum. Don't expect the VRM's or mosfets to last as long as with the 3210M though. Hope to see how things go! I plan on doing this myself! I'm curious as to how it works out for you. P.S. Its good you chose a good thermal paste for a laptop, spreads well and shouldn't be a hassle.
  7. This has happened to me as well, but not just with the corsair extreme edition. Unfortunately, I believe it has to do with the way the hard drive is compatible with what it is connected too. It probably was not designed to be connected to a SATA converter, as they are only typically used for 2.5" HDD's to increase storage space. SSD's are as of now meant more for performance rather than space. My suggestion is find another converter to try, if that doesn't work then unfortunately you won't be able to use it externally.
  8. Yep, like all the others said- Desktop and laptop cards are different spectrums of performance. you can find a good gaming laptop that can perform similar to a GTX 570 if you throw your price range into the 1700+ and SLI but otherwise GTX 570 by a longshot. Unless you really need something mobile, you can just stick to desktop.
  9. Yes, you can try Truecrypt and use the software to encrypt it or you can encrypt the files separately by right clicking the file or folder, going to advanced, then there should be an option to encrypt the file however this depends on your OS.
  10. Between 50 Euros and just .1ghz, I would just say get the 3612QM. The .1ghz won't make a realistic day too day difference and if you ever needed to boost it a little, while troublesome, you could unlock the bios and go from there. There should be only a little difference between the 2, since the 3612QM is already pushing limits that can explain the huge jump in price with the 3632QM. Hope that helped.
