  1. Yeah, if it's priced very competitively then it would be ok if the system can keep it cool, a lot of if's & but's though! Looking forward to seeing some notebookcheck.net reviews on it.
  2. That GPU score of the M295x is really not very impressive. Only 30% better than my overclocked 670MX on Firestrike, only 7% better than mine on Skydiver, and only 23% better in 3DMark11. Not worthy of an upgrade, especially while being a 125W GPU.
  3. I think NVidia will simply re-enable overclocking to be exactly the same as it was before, +135Mhz limit on the core, which a limit set in the vBIOS anyway. Doing anything less would just negate any positive effect for them that's been brought about by this positive announcement by NVidia.
  4. Nice GPU score, I'd like a score like that - double my GPU score and you've not even pushed the 980M yet! A travesty that NVidia have blocked overclocking of these brilliant 900M chips with their latest drivers!
  5. Haha, that made me laugh, I can imagine that - would be scary for a little kid hearing strange threatening noises from the bushes in darkness (& on Halloween!!).
  6. Ah, ok, cool, I see what you've done, you've combined your knowledge of inductor and FET Combo chip arrangement with your observation that there is an extra inductor on the 980M card and a more efficient arrangement of FET Combo chips to marry with those inductors. You've used your engineering knowledge to come to that conclusion. (I think someone on NBR told me you're studying electrical engineering.)
  7. Cheers Khenglish, that's very enlightening. How did you find out / determine all of that about the power delivery systems of the new Maxwell cards? Looks like a lack of adequate power supply is not the reason for the ban on overclocking - because the power delivery systems of the new Maxwell cards are as good (970M) or better (980M) than the previous Kepler cards.
  8. Yeah, I don't think it helps our cause to advertise that link! At worst it might make desktop users feel safe that overclocking will remain with them in the future, we shouldn't advertise that link - we want the support of the desktop community. Of course, if NVidia lock down mobile NVidia GPUs then we all know it's more likely that they'll end up doing it to desktop's in the future too.
  9. They're not a waste of time - companies don't bother spending money and their time to create surveys for no good reason - they do it to get feedback from consumers & to affect corresponding changes to their business.
  10. This is a terrible move by NVidia, they're just shooting themselves in the foot (or face more to the point!) - they're messing with their reputation in a very negative way, their GPUs have always been good overclockers, and a lot of people choose NVidia for this reason - bad business decision NVidia, hope you do a 180 and re-enable overclocking! Meanwhile, there's a petition to sign: https://www.change.org/p/nvidia-re-enable-overclocking-on-geforce-equipped-notebooks?recruiter=20925400
  11. NVidia have lost the plot with blocking overclocking, completely unacceptable! I've signed the petition!
  12. +rep if I could give it! Signed the petition & took the survey. Everyone, please sign that petition, it's really easy, just an e-mail address & password, took less than 1 minute to do, it's crazy that NVidia have blocked overclocking: https://www.change.org/p/nvidia-re-enable-overclocking-on-geforce-equipped-notebooks?recruiter=20925400
  13. I would think so, if I remember rightly the Clevo 680M was a 4GB card and the Dell 680M was a 2GB card.
  14. There's definitely something wrong with that then. I would go back to the vBIOS you were using before, or increase the voltage, or lower the clocks.
  15. I wouldn't use Furmark as a stress test, it's completely unrealistic. Try a 20min run of Unigine Heaven Benchmark instead. Furmark places unreal loads on the GPU, and NVidia have been artificially throttling performance in Furmark since Fermi (eg since 460M/560M/580M) because of this fact as soon as the exe is detected & launched. But yes, it shouldn't really crash on Furmark.
  16. Wow, excellent Graphics Score! How much voltage are you using on the GPU, is it 100% gaming stable?
  17. Yes, it definitely sounds like you need a higher wattage power adapter, using the battery to supplement power is a horrible design workaround - they should have provided a 330W adapter with it. Guess you could always try a Dell 330W adapter considering your Dell 240W adapter works.
  18. That batch file is only gonna work for you though, not necessarily other users right? What I mean to say is that everyone's stable overclocks are going to differ, so your batch file is tailored to your particular 980M's. Just saying that so people don't just go ahead and use your clocks and it might not be stable. Very interesting about the 324W threshold.
  19. (A17, not R5) M17xR3 > M17xR4 > A17 > A17 R2 Installation procedure in Optimus mode is simply physically installing the new card & reinstalling the NVidia driver using a modified inf (doesn't matter if you have Windows 7 or Windows 8) - that's what I've learned from reading these forums.
  20. @BillyXq and @thegh0sts, why don't you guys list your system in sig, it puts your posts in context, otherwise they're not as understandable. (same goes for other folks without system listed in sig).
  21. Actually, swapping the GPUs should be hard part, because you have to arrange all the pads so it's level & repaste. You should just be able to install the Nvidia drivers with a modded inf after that.
  22. I don't remember seeing one either. After you've done all the research, and still can't find anything, then it might still be worth a try.
  23. Good question, I don't know, hopefully svl7 can answer you if he sees this, it doesn't say anywhere on the first page.
  24. Well, you're on the right track, you just need to do some research in this thread & others about how to install NVidia drivers using a modified inf. Here's a thread that describes how to do it: http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia/6307-%5Balienware%5D-aftermarket-upgrades-driver-support-modded-inf.html and here's another one so you know how to actually mod the inf file yourself: http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia/5249-%5Bguide%5D-modding-nvidia-oem-inf-files.html (Just make some reasonable quality posts in other threads on this forum so you can get up to 5 posts, can be on anything as long as you're contributing & not just spamming.)
